    homemade gobos?

so i'm putting my wood up for the winter (which consists of unloading three pallets of wood pellets and hauling them into the basement) and i get to looking at these pallets, that i would normally just haul to the dump. what if i stapled some carpet to them and cut some notches in a couple of 2x6's for support? a little unwieldy, perhaps, but seeing as i've got a butload of carpet remnants from my last re-model and a bunch of scrap lumber in the shed, the price is right. whaddya think?

finally got a weekend off with some spare time-they ain't pretty, but the price was right

i didn't get real fancy with supports, just screwed a 2x4 to one side

i reckon if you wanted to get really anal about it you could use liquid nails, matching carpet, and tuck and roll the edges and whatnot, but then it would take a lot longer than the 1/2 hour it took me.

probably helps a bit with high frequencies.

if you *really* want to make 'em work, fill the "air space" with owens corning 703, or at least put some on the outside. two layers of carpet just isnt going to be enough mass to really make much difference, plus it is flammable, and very toxic if it does catch fire. i imagine anything below 5k (basically all sound if we are talking drum kit) or so is passing through unimpeded. maybe you could "skin" the skids with some plywood or something?
