I'm playing with a new bass player who's interested in working up a bass feature arrangement of the piano coda in "Layla" -- after the main part of the song (played fairly straight ala Derek), instead of piano, we were going to try just bass and rhythm guitar. I've never played the piano part before (actually I was never that fond of it -- always seemed a bit out of place), but I thought it would be worth seeing how a different arrangement works out.
Anyway, I was listening to the orginal recoding and trying to work out an rhthm guitar approximation of the chord progresion. So far I've got:
First part:
C C4 F Fmaj7 Ddim C
Middle part (starting with descending bass line C B A):
Am Dm G C Am Dm7 G
The above works OK as a basic harmonisation for the melodies, but I wondering if anyone had any suggestions for something better, or perhaps a little more accurate with respect the moving piano chords... in particular the Dm7 G works, but I think the actual progression is a bit more interesting.

(BTW, I have no idea what my guitar is tuned to after tuning to the recording... somewhere between E and F, anyway!)
