    50's Tele build underway

I have finally started my 50's custom tele clone. I'll update this thread as I progress.

Today I did two coats of grain filler. Tomorrow will be a sanding and then some coats of nitro sanding sealer.

The body is a Guitar Mill Ash two piece '52 style:

    Front
    Back

The neck is an Allparts Nitro vintage fretted 7.25" radius with a custom waterslide that I created. I am in the process of layering nitro over the waterslide to blend it in.

First and second coats of grain filler...

I've never seen the term waterslide thisway. Is that the decal? As in you slide it into place wet?

Yep. Print on the inkjet at high quality in glossy photo mode and then spray it with a coat or two of nitro gloss. Then cut it out - soak it - slide it off into position, let it dry, and then shoot it with more coats of nitro to blend it in a bit.

I had no idea you could make decals at home with a printer. That's nuts. Where do you get the paper for it?

I put on the first few coats of dye this morning - which revealed some small areas that I need to grain-fill. I will do that and then shoot some sanding sealer on top and then keep going. I may need a second can of dye though to get to the deep blue thats in my head.

    Finished the paint tonight...

I ended up using a black lacquer for the back and sides and then the transparent blue on the top. I am very happy considering this is my first try.

Next up will be final wetsand and polish in a few weeks.
