    Sennheiser e906

    Another gift from Mrs. Kap'n.

This thing sounds excellent, not a lot of coloration to my ear! You can keep even a small amp down in the mostly clean/edge zone, push it with pedals, and still move some air with the PA. I like it a lot better than a SM57 or the e609.

I love mine though my 5E3 clone is loud enough that I don't use it much.
It's my first "real" mic so I don't really have anything else to compare it to.

Haven't done any recording with it, yet. Most of my recording has been done with an MD421, but the e906 looks really easy to set up for live use, which is what I'm planning on using it for the most. I'm not big into recording.

The 609 sounds to my untrained ear, sort of like the 57, but harsher. The 906 doesn't have that spikiness.

I like that it's easy to set up. I hang it from the amp's handle so that the mic is on the outside of the handle and is positioned towards the edge of the speaker. It's against the grill cloth.

It's all I have so I record with it too. I put it on a desktop mic stand and move it further away from the speaker.

I've thought seriously about getting the 906. A PA forum I frequent recommended the 609. I'd like to hear more about the differences between the 906 and the 609. Also where do you set the Switchable presence filters?

I set mine in the middle, usually.

I didn't play much with the e609, other than to A/B it with a SM57, about a year ago. It lost, because of the high end response.

Mine is set in the middle. I haven't had a chance to spend much time with it.

    Too much, or not enough?

The high end was brittle to my ears - too much.

Do you still like the 906 and do you like it because it was a gift from the misses?

Still got it. Still like it, regardless of whether it was from the missus or not.

    That just makes it better.

I still love mine and it wasn't even a gift! I was never happy with mics before this one.
