    Urei EQ's?

Fella wants to give me a couple of Urei EQ's-539 and 537. They worth a shit? The price is right, and I need a couple EQ's for my live rig. Anyone familiar w/ these?

I'm not hands-on familiar with either one, but old (I hesitate to say "vintage") Urei stuff has a rep for good quality. I'm not a big fan of graphic equalizers. Perhaps your experience will be different, but it seems to me that even the best ones are phase shift generators that people tend to overuse.

Still, as my grandfather Buckley always said... "for free? Take."

Old! Likely need to be re-capped (= $).

Likely over rated to begin with.

As Jim said, graphics are not the best approach to instrument EQ. A Parametric would be the way to go if you can't get what you want from your current setup. Get a Rane PE15 from eBay.

Many, if not most, pro audio EQs will have to be used in a loop, lest they introduce a lot of noise.
