What is your strat strung up with??

String thickness is something that is heavily debated among strat players.........

My strat is strung up with Ernie Ball Skinny Top Heavy Bottoms (10-52) which I believe are the fattest/most playable strings you can put on a stratocaster.

Which strings do you put on your strat and why?

Right now I'm using 10-46 (D'addario when I can afford them), but when I an get my guitar refretted with jumbo frets I'm going up to 11's.

I use the Fender Original Bullets (10s). I like the tone, but I have noticed that they break more often than other strings that I have used on the same guitar. I may switch back to the Ernie Ball strings.

GHS 10-46 Progressive's work fine for me. Rarely break, hold their tune/tone and I like the slightly more aggressive tone with the Kinman pups.

the hybrid 10's....d'addario 10-52. I find it helps the strat beef up for chording but still gives flexability. I used to use 11's but it got hard if i took even a week break to get strength back. 9's are shitty on ANY guitar.

    D'Addarios

I don't understand why people use D'Addarios. In my experience the tone went dead very quickly and they were prone to breakage..........

Working in a guitar shop has its advantages you get to try all brands of strings and all sizes.

What I have found works best on a Strat is at least a 50 for the big E the heavy bottom light top sets work fine.

    I like 50 38 26 17 13 10

Longest lasting best piano like tone for me are the Kendrick strings. They include extra plains cause once they wear out you put on a new ebg and play a couple weeks longer till the wounds wear out. I get about 4-6 weeks out of a set of these playing an average of 45-60min a day.

Some strings sound really bright when new and die quickly others feel stiff you just have to find what your guitar and hands like best.

I've used D'Addario XL-110s on all my electrics very shortly after I started playing in early 1983.

For me, it's just force of habit.

Hmmmmm that sounds like a plan Marcondo. What, if any string makers make combinations like this ? Buying in piece is expensive and frustrating at times. I am thinking of going to 11's because theres just more tone there, but having a lighter ebg for bending and thicker dae might be the best of both worlds if attainable.

10-46. I use that guage on everything. Usually GHS Boomers (buy 'em by the case!). Occasionally D'addario XL's or Ernie Ball regular slinky if they're on sale cheap.
5E3 Deluxe, '74 hardtail, Strat XII, many copies.

I discovered those strings about 6 months ago, and they're all I use on all my guitars now. I find you can really dig in without any string buzz by using heavier wound strings. I swear by 'em.

When I started palying all I used was D'Addarios. I've been playing various Fender Bullets for the last 2-3 years. A couple of weeks ago I bought a new Strat and put on the Original 150 Bullets and had two dead packs in a row!

I do like the Super Bullets, not bad. Recently, I thought I would try some other brands and after trying Elixirs (yuck IMHO), Ernie Ball, DR, etc, etc I came back to D'Addarios. They are made well, very consistant and never dead sounding to me. They always have a nice snap to them. The only thing thats constant is change, but D'Addarios are the one for me at this point anyway.

(Edit)....Oh by the way, no matter what strings I use I can get breaking since I play hard and percussive. Also, I have to change strings after EVERY gig anyway, so longevity is irrelevant to me. I have to start a show with brand new strings. I look for nice, snappy, toneful strings and thats that.

I found that GHS Boomers are very good as well!

After trying many different types/manufacturers, I like the Maxima Gold 10's. Expensive, but with the gold coating they seem to hold their tone longer and I very seldom break any.

I have been using Fender Super Bullets 10-46 on all my Strats now for a few years. They seem to have a nice ring and sustain to them and they seem to hold up well for me. I haven't noticed them staying in tune with my tremolos better, but I don't really beat on my trems. I have had a few dead sets pop up from time to time though.

Methamphetamine. Went on a 7-state crime spree a few years back- killed two people, stole three cars, robbed a bank. It was a disaster.

    Oh, you meant GUITARS!
I use the Gibson Vintage strings, usually 010 but sometimes 009. I used Ernie Balls for decades and found nothing wrong with them, though. The GHS boomers are nice too.

Ernie Ball .011's. Sometimes GHS or D'Addario. I've been wanting to try the Gibson Vintage, but I haven't found them in .011's yet.
