It's here. The Fezzter "Prince Gautama" is in da house, yo.
First of all, it's beautiful to look at, and arrived in perfect condition thanks to Fezz's bullet-proof packing job (it took me a good five minutes to get it out of the box-in-a-box). I was pleased to see that was tubed up and ready to rock.
I turned it on and let it warm up for 10 minutes or so before plugging in. Did just what Fezz suggested... started with both controls at "7", NFB control full CCW, neck pickup on the Zencaster. Well, lemme tell ya, boys....
It's awesome.
Maybe the best, most living, breathing amp I've ever played through. It's exactly the right amount of noise for me and my room (even flat-out, shuddering on the edge of feedback, it's a perfectly reasonable SPL), and is everything Fezz said in terms of response.... with the amp cranked to 7 or 8, you can completely control volume and break-up just by changing your attack or muting.
With the Zencaster, it needs no compressor. Notes hang and bloom all on their own.
And here's the beauty part... if you think of an amp as a new musical instrument, this one sounds great and feels great after only 15 minutes playing it! All i can think is how much I can learn about this after I've played through it for six months or a year.
I'll be posting sound clips (and likely some pictures of it in my space) in this thread shortly... if not today, tomorrow for sure (Lisa is on vacation this week, and we've got some stuff to do together). i think some of you guys will be amazed that the amp is being driven by active pickups. But here's the proof of the pudding....
For years, Lisa has been pointing out great instrument sounds on TV or movies, and as girls will do, saying, "You should make your (whatever) sound like that!" Sometimes I'll go try it, other times, I'll explain that I don't have the gear for that. (To which she charmingly and completely earnestly responds, "You mean with all those synths and stuff, you can't...?")
Anyway, she is on the phone with my Mom upstairs, and was while I was cranking the amp through a bunch of settings. I came upstairs, and she had this HUGE grin on her face... and I said, "So, you can hear it too?" Big thumbs up.
So even girls can hear it. It's awesome. Thank you, Mr. Parka, for opening my eyes to tweediness. PC, you will have to get your own.
