I don't recall if it was jazzmasters or jaguars (mij) that everyone was gushing over. local craigs list has on. Kind of rare

JM's are usually preferred over Jags. Jags have a 24" scale length, while JM's are 25.5.
    Several guitars in different colors
    Things to make them fuzzy

I love Jaguars. Those mid-90s MIJ scratchplates look screwy though.

Then would a Jag be prefered/more comfortable to a les paul player?

Only in terms of scale length. Jaguars have a Strat-like tone while Jazzmasters, while still clean sounding, are a bit warmer and full bodied. Surf guys love both.

I'm basing my Jag off of a MIJ but I'm making it a 25.5" scale because I couldn't take the tiny scale length. That MIJ is an impressive guitar nonetheless.
