Re: Whats on your pedal board?

I have that same Gator Pedal Tote. The only problem that I have with it is that I like my 4 pedals side by side and they are cramped BIG TIME. I have a BOSS tuner, a VOX wah, a TS-9, and a DD-5 delay, and there is no more real room. If I'm not careful, it is easy to step on 2 pedals at once. Nothing like getting echoes from hell just because you punched you TS-9 to scream a bit during a slow blues....

I am ok with the side by side ones, but sometimes I hit the knobs on the front ones when going for the ones in back. Once I must have hit the level on the bad monkey, because I stepped on it and...nothing, knob was all the way to the left. Eek.

When doing a 2 row pedal board I've always found it best if you can add some kind of tier so the back row in higher than the front. This board has the back raised about 3-4" and it makes it so much easier to only hit the pedal you meant to hit.

Re: Whats on your pedal board?

Another tip for stepping on the rear row of pedals without hitting the ones in front is to use your heel on the rear ones. After awhile you get used to doing it this way and it will come as second nature to you. In doing it that way it totally eliminates hitting any of the knobs on the front row pedals. It seems to be the only way that works really well for me aside from having the rear pedals on a 4" shelf. May not work for everyone, but it solved my issue of hitting the front row pedals knobs.

I have a practice pedal board (GAS is a terrible thing!!!) with all the same pedals, but it is the SKB version. It is 6 years old and used to gig. It has held up well and the power supply still works good as new. The good thing is that there is plenty of space. If I am right, the price is about the same. I used the more expensive SKB board and it has been slowly but surely breaking pieces off left and right. The power supply went relatively soon after the initial purchase. Sometimes spending a little more doesn't mean a thing.

This is an older picture of my board. I have since added an Xotic RC Booster (which is an amazing pedal) in place of the HBE Germania. The signal chain currently is:
    Guitar>PedalworX modded Vox Wah>A/B switch for output mute>PedalworX McFuzz Hybrid Hot>Landgraff Dynamic Overdrive>Xotic RC Booster>Line 6 RotoMachine>Amp

Some FX, like wahs and fuzzes don't work as nice with buffered fx in front of them.

OTOH, if you leave a modulation effect on before the tuner, you could have some issues.

The tuner is true bypass. It is at the end as it is a Planet Waves. It makes strange noises if it is not. I like it though as it is very accurate and bypass. The only buffer in the board is the DD-6. I would not have anything on when I tuned anyway, so that is not an issue for me.

Wow, that's a very nice-looking layout. Plus, beaucoup dinero went into that thing.

How much did it cost to wire up the pedals with those George L's (or whatever they are)?

Re: Whats on your pedal board?

well, heres the large 34X 21X 7 pedalboard populated with most of my current pedals. The pictures show the pedals pretty well spaced out. Theres still a ton of space. When i moved them down to the bottom, nearly half pedalboard is available still. Overkill, i would say, and I would have been better off with the smaller 29" pedalboard unless maybe its nicer to have them spaced out a little-but the board is still BIG! Also, I still need to add some pedals- a OCD, an Phase Shifter,a OD-1 Boss and A Fuzzface, so maybe the spare room may come in handy. I'm just wondering if I am not barking up the wrong tree trying to get everything onto one board. Is this really necessary?

How's the build quality of that board, jerryjg?

    Weight?

I have a pal who wants a BIG, quality pedalboard (he uses multiple signal paths as well as a board-mounted patch bay) and that one just might fit the bill.

Re: Whats on your pedal board?

The pedalboard definitly leaves something to be desired in terms of build quality. I think the 29" one would be stouter. Loaded down with all those pedals, which are pretty heavey, the plywood flexes. Its pretty thin plywood(particleboard?).Its called a "Roadie" case, and i think the ebay s;ller did a good job playing it up as an industrial heavey duty case, which it definitly is not. Its built well, though, as far as that it has good construction and finish and aluminum and black tolex are very good qaulity as well as the case clamps/locks. Its medium heavey-not as heavey as you would like-- I wouldnt load this with pedals and take it on the road though. I am toying with the idea of reinforcing the pedalboard with thicker plywood. Thing is, I looked aroiund and didnt see any pedalboards of the like that rere any better than this one, so that may be another thing to consider.

Actually, on further review, its pretty cheap shit. A ripoff i would say, but now at least i will have to try and reinforce it with good lunber. I will post a progress report. And like I said, I coulnt find anything better, so i will try and modyfy it.

I think I just found the pedalboard we are looking for . The Pedaltrain pro. Consider that my one weighs in at 18 pounds, and this one weighs in at way more-33 lbs.! Plus its got a steel frame that weighs 7 pounds.

    Dunlop Crybaby
Inferno 3.14 (Big Muff Pi Triangle era http://toejampedals.com/)
DigiTech Bad Monkey (just got it used for $24, very impressed so far)
Washburn BadDog Chorus (P.O.S. to be replaced soon)
Boss DD-3 Delay (bought it new in 87' I think, still dead quiet)
Zoom G2-1u (it's not in the chain, use it for low level practice and fun)
EHX Holy Grail (Also a new addition, a little disappointed in the hum but not too bad. and the reverb hits the spot.)

    Wanted List
    -Tremolo
    -Flanger/phaser
    -Decent Chorus
-EHX Hum-debugger (if it really works)

Re: Whats on your pedal board?

    Here's my $0.00 pedal board (Mk I).

I come from the Zakk Wylde school of pedal board building. Got the power supply wires routed underneath and coming up through holes drilled through the top to keep things cleaner and less tangly.

Working on Mk. II so I can have another row of pedals (to add my Voodoo Lab SuperFuzz and Microvibe). May splurge on G1S plywood this time instead of scrounging from the neighbor's trash (or visit a more wealthy neighbor this time)

Sorry for the crap pic - my digital camera is turning into a shitital camera.

+1 on the comments above. I have the 29"x15-3/4" (inside measurements) version of
this board (see below) and the smaller "brief case" size (see below) and have been happy
with the results. They are my "medium" and "small" pedalboards The "big" board
is the one I play at church that I posted previously.

I use this board at home and when I play out (outside of church) along with my Peavey
Classic 30 amp. As you can see, I'm in the middle of soldering plugs on custom-fit cables
as I've reworked the entire board recently. Oh, the metal box in the middle is going to be
a true bypass 2-channel looper (to help clean up my signal path I'm running the wah and
overdrive pedal on bypass 1 and the Trem/Chorus/Phase/Flange on bypass 2). As I don't
use these effects on several songs, I thought it would be cleaner to keep them out of my
path whenever possible. As always, everything is powered by a 1-Spot.

This little guy is used with my Taylor T5 (and/or if I want an easy "grab and go" board
when I plan to go direct into the P.A. and not use an amp or extra effects, etc.).

First, let me say that while I'd never hide anything from my wife, I don't go out of my way to point out to her that I now have 3 boards - what she don't know, can't hurt me!

Now, while many will call me crazy and say this is overkill, let me explain things a little more...

My big board stays put at church (my old back doesn't need to lug that weight around to practice and then again on Sunday services).

As for the need for a separate (little) board for my "acoustic" (the Taylor T5), there are times when I may take/use 2 pedalboards at the same gig. For example, I'm playing alternating between the T5 and my electrics (Les Paul, 356, etc.). I'll have the T5 into the small board into the PA. The electrics will play thru one of the larger boards into my amp or whatever. It's one thing to switch guitars between songs but you can't be rerouting signals between PA and amp, etc. in the middle of the set.

Even at church I'll sometimes take the T5 and small board and let one of the other guys play it while I'm playing electric simulataneously. Depending on who is playing acoustic that week, my T5 may be a better sounding guitar than say, their Yamaha. Of course, the guy with the Martin never wants to swap out for the Taylor - go figure

Anyway, yes, it is a sickness I guess (or at least the results of some major GAS pains over the last 2 years) but it works for me.

Oh, I'm glad you like my guitars... again, the results of some serious GAS attacks.

Let's see...this week, the signal chain is Rotovibe, Dunlop Hendrix wah, Real Tube, Tube Screamer reissue, Ibanez analog delay, Boss Phaser, Boss tuner.

Tube Screamer is the basic overdrive sound, and the Real Tube is set as a solo boost. The three-prong jack on the Pedal Power is a godsend.

Oh, I'm glad you like my guitars... again, the results of some serious GAS attacks.
Nearly everything I've bought over the past year has been driven by my need to upgrade my system for versatility and portability since our church started meeting in a local movie theatre.

Plus, I had the pleasure to catch Desperation Band at Kingdom Bound and loved the way the guitarist used a lot of effects textures and incorporated fuzz, wah, delay, and tremolo into the songs. He is also the reason why I am now in the throes of an obsession with all things SG...but I do need a tremolo pedal - though I don't have any room left on my pedalboard. Maybe I'll need to sub the chorus out for the tremolo, depending on the needs for the week...

I hear ya' - until I started playing at church, I never had this many effects either. Chorus/Tremolo - I again that those 2 are key effects for many praise & worship songs. Personally, if I was going to sub out something on my board, I'd keep the Tremolo, Chorus and Phase and get rid of the Flanger. I've found that if you run Chorus and Phase together it will sorta' sound like a Flanger. Oh well, good luck finding the right combo of effects on your board.

Re: Whats on your pedal board?

Wow! Had no idea so many were running pedal boards that look like the display at GC. I have not used pedals for 30 years but my new project band is playing 60's music that requires some drive. I've updated my rig to include a Boss BD-2...
