    "squire series"

    hello,

i have a (fender?)precision bass with a MN5.... serial number. i believe that means made in mexico in 1995. at the top of the headstock it says "squire series".

    -is this considered a squire?
-did early squires have a fender logo like mine?

any info on the fender-labeled squire series would be greatly appreciated.

    thank you,
    tony

    Yes. It's a squire.

But, I might add, the 'Squire Series' from Mexico was made with the exact same materials and hardware as the 'Standard Series' was with one minor exception. The tuners they used have a 'reversed' hole pattern. I'm assuming that was done to be able to know the difference between a 'Standard' and 'Squire' that had it's head stock label replaced or the 'Squire Series' label removed.

I have a 'Squier Stratocaster' and I can find no practicable difference between it and a 'Fender Stratocaster' made in Mexico.

I like it and it compares well with my 'American Standard Stratocaster'.

FYI - Some Squiers (i.e., the ProTone series) are actually nicer IMO than some of the "real Fenders" out there.
