Trouble downloading Kristal software

Ever since i've installed a new hard drive on my laptop I've been without Kristal software. Finally last night I downloaded it.

The problem came downloading the asio file. Somewhere along the line something got corrupted with my sound. Sound through ony one speaker, crackles through the other, and no headphones. (This is a Dell inspiron 5150) After not finding any workable fix with any settings I uninstalled kristal & asio.

Still nothing.

System restore: Got both speakers back-still no headphones.

Now this morning I got nothing, zilch. I called dell, I reinstalled the sigmatel ac97 driver. I have to call dell back but I wanted to ask you guys first. Theres gotta be some switch somewhere Im not looking!

BTW- Im running XP Home edition.

Hey-I figured it out!

Well,with the help of Dell technical support that is!




Its a blown soundcard.

We ran a diagnostic to test the soundcard without loading any programs so now I know it's not a kristal or asio issue. But now I gotta send it back to dell for 10-15 days to replace the damn motherboard!

WTF!! I never even got to record anything.

Fezz , I was thinking this might be a good time to upgrade so I'll look into those-thanks!

In your opinion do you think it's a good idea for me to have Dell replace the motherboard anyway ? I mean as long as they're offerin'?

They did said this could be a sign of the motherboard starting to go.

Only the sigmatel AC97 because thats the only one i thought needed changing. How many drivers would there be?
