    3 wire question

OK tech people...brand new to the forum and I have a question regarding an old Lawrence L-250 I bought used.
It has 3 leads, a red, a black and a bare wire. I want to replace the bridge pu in my old MIJ Strat --which leads go where?
    Thanks for any help.

    bare to ground
keep track of where the existing ones terminate.
you have a 50-50% chance of getting it 'in phase'
if it isn't, reverse the red & black

    Re: 3 wire question

Connect a DVM to the original pickup leads. Take a block of steel (not stainless) and wave it in single direction over the pickup. See which way the voltage goes.

    Repeat with the new pickup.

Next use a bar magnet to compare the magnetic orientation of the pole pieces.

That way you will know if the pup is RW or RW/RP, or similar to the original.

I got the PU in and it sounds great. The things I've read about the old Bill Lawrence L-250 are true. Great clean sounds by itself and with the center PU still has a great out-of-phase sound. Thanks all for the help.
