Boss BD-2 anyone use it un-modded?

I was thinking of picking up a Boss BD-2 so I started looking through the posts. I noticed it seems just about everyone has modded their BD-2. Makes me wonder why Boss hasn't released a BD-3 encorporating some of the mods.

Is this correct or are a lot of you running it stock?

I used to use one. I had a HRDx and pushed my un-modded BD-2 with a Bad Monkey. Got some really good grind and liked it a lot. Then I sold my HRDx and got a DRRI, which doesn't like BOSS pedals at all. So, it's off the board.

I used mine unmodified for a long time. It's a good pedal when unmodified and a great pedal when it is modified.

Unmodified the tone control doesn't have as much range and the gain can get what people describe as 'fizzy' when maxed.

I wasn't a believer until my lap steel player picked one up. It beats his previous pedal, the Boss DS-1, all hollow. Much much better.

Still, I hear that the modded ones sound smoother. I think you can buy a modded one from Robert Keeley for about $40 more than the price of the pedal.

I use mine unmodded into a DRRI, but i have the level at about 60% and the gain at 15%-20% so it just gives it a little kick, nothing really. its more about getting the drri to overdrive with a level boost than anything. I just turn the gain up a little to make some rythem with a little more chunk and distortion to it, rather than the overdrive of the drri
