    1985 Kramer Baretta

Someone just gave me a single pickup Kramer Baretta in exchange for working on another guitar. it's going to need a lot of work, but it seems to be very sound, mechanically. The pickup.. I don't think works right..

It's really worn out, but it could be a decent player when I'm done with it. It has an original Floyd Rose on it.

What do you guys think it's worth? If it's worth a lot I may either give it back to the guy, or give him some cash for it.

From what I understand, EVH used to play them..
I'll keep it in my EVH collection!

I'm finding out this is a pretty rare guitar. I'm looking forward to getting it all working again.

The guys on the Kramer forums say it's a really great find!

Does it have the Bananna headstock? Those are uber-rare i think. Yes,early Kramers, like early San Dimas Charvels are real collectible guitars; in particualr the EVH Baretta models. Theres a Kramer website of course. I will try and post a link. I was just on the Kramer website tonight before I saw your post cause I was looking for info on an old Hamer Std. Explorer I sold for about a hundred-fifty bucks (if that) ten years ago. It played like a dream, but it was neck heavey. The neck would drop and the tail would swing up the minute you let the neck go. I hated that. I found out tonight they are selling for up two Grand now. http://www.vintagekramer.com/

    Re: 1985 Kramer Baretta

I've got a real soft spot for Kramers from that era.

I've never owned one, but when I first started out working in a guitar shop my boss handed me a box of parts one day and said "Put this back together".

It was an old Kramer that had been completely taken apart after some knucklehead had played it with wet house paint on his hands.

Over a couple of days I cleaned it up, reassembled it, and learned the ins and outs of the Floyd it was sporting. It was the first guitar I ever did that to.

I spent the next several years working as a guitar tech, and I made good money (for a college kid) setting up Floyds, and I give a lot of credit to that Kramer. It was a good teacher.

On another tangent, that same store got a shipment of NOS Kramers from a store owned by a friend of the owners. We got them after Nirvana broke and shred guitars had become passe...and sold some that had their original hang tags and original $1,100 prices for $350.

Alright! A REAL shred guitar complete with Floyd.

It's begging to be re-conditioned so that it can join you in the JamZone.

    Re: 1985 Kramer Baretta

    No! Not THAT Baretta..

    This one..

BTW, I found out the value is between $400.00-900.00. This one, because of the route under the Floyd would drop it to the bottom figure, but it's still going to be a great players guitar.

They also have a Re Issue of this guitar, but it's $1000.00 street price..
Funny, the 84 RI runs $850.00, but the 85 RI runs $1000.00. But Vintage 84's are worth much more than 85's....

I think you're going to have a blast with this one once you get it back together.

    I dig the wear, too.

Are the new striker and focus kramers any good these days? If I ever get my finger speed up I'm imagining my self picking one up since they are so cheep.

specificlly the Striker FR-422SM and Kramer 620 Electric Guitar Black USA looks interesting to me, or maybe a strat style ax from the 80's off ebay.

Man, this is bringing me back. I remember buying some sort of Kramer in NJ some 22 years ago. I got a lot of mileage out of it at the time. I even met a couple dudes who worked for Kramer and they told me about Eddie Van Halen popping in to tweak his guitars.

Well, here are a couple of snap shots. I say that because I have not had time to do the formal portraits. I have to do those with natural light, and the sun is going down by the time I get home from work.

I shot these with three flash units. I hate flash...

    HELL yeah!!

Did you get the stock pup working or did you drop something else in?

    I haven't had a guitar with a Floyd since the 80's....maybe this'll be the year ...

    Re: 1985 Kramer Baretta

I put in a Duncan JB. That is one of the pickups they used in them. I really like the Floyd. It is so stable tuning wise.

I took it to work and one of the guy did an EVH imitation with it. I had not stressed the Floyd anywhere near what he did. When I got home I put it on the tuner, and every string was still perfectly in tune.

Kramer recently put out a re-issue of this guitar, but it's $850.00..

Y'know, as much as I hate shred guitars there's definitely something pretty cool about that one.
