    What humbucker for strat?

    Hi Folks!

I don't seem to have good luck selecting pickups so thought I would ask some one that does. Its going to be just one near the bridge kinda like what EVH did and I think he used old PAF ones wound a bit hotter, I am looking for the hard rock tone also but was not sure what one would sound good in my strat for that type of music. Hear is a soud clip of my LP Deluxe with the mini buckers, this is also the amp I will be using and my playing style.

    Thanks for the advice!

You want something that isn't going to dwarf your front and middle pups in volume.I like a lower to normal output unit, wound around 7.5 to 8.2K....of course, this reading doesn't have everything to do with output, but my favs have been in this range.
If your strat isn't already routed for a bucker, you may want to look into some of the side by side blade models (2 coils, like a mini-bucker) that fit in a stock pickguard.Check out GFS,they have some models like this (www.guitarfetish.com) as does Duncan and others.

I have a Carvin TBH-60 twinblade in the neck of my squire and i like it allot. I hear it's also nice in the bridge. After three years of a gig bag it started to fall apart after a few hits, and i may upgrade to a Dimarzio Pro Track. But I needed a warm jazz-able PAF sounding p'up in the neck, so i would recomend for you something more like their "The Chopper" p'up if you worry about being the same out put as the other single coils.

However, if you don't care about that you could try their YJM. All the pups have sound bytes available.
Just for fun try the "pickup picker" at http://www.dimarzio.com/ I'm not affiliated with them, i just think their website is fun to play with.

Even if you don't care for Dimarzio as much as i do, it still may help you find what style of pick up you seek.

For a long time I have been wanting to try out the Super Distortion pup, I will only be using one pickup so balance with other single coils won't be a issue.

I put a Kent armstong HPAN-1 in mine Vintage paf tones and sound real sweet when pushed into Satriani type mode. Its 8.9k but the HPAN+1 will give you a bit more output at 9.9k. It is fairly important to keep the balance in output even. Also the out of phase with the HB and middle pick up is pretty wondefull! It looks pretty cool too!

Here my friend playing my Heavy Metal Strat loaded with a Bill Lawrence L500XL humbucker on the bridge. He is using a small fender mini amp. This is a no BS setup. It is as simple as it gets.

Here is my friend playing his Samick with a Bill Lawrence L500L on the bridge.

My friend playing his Ibanez. His setup has the Dimarzio EVO neck and Bridge. The middle pickup is a Bill Lawrence Keystone Single Coil.

Here is the rest of the videos where he plays country and Jazz. My HM Strat and his Samick are loaded with the YJM neck pickup.

We both feel that the Bill Lawrence L500 Pickups are the best humbuckers ever. Smooth, articulate, clear, clean (even overdriven) and flat out kick ass!

    Enjoy,
