Do original Jag pickups (say on a '65) have adjustable pole pieces?

Except for the Seth Lover cunife humbuckers in the 70's, I don't think stock Fender pickups have EVER had adjustible polepieces. Which is a bummer for anyone who wants to put a plain G on a Strat.

I saw a Jaguar at a local shop. What is that serated metal blade that is exposed on the side of the PUP?
Just curious.

Oh Man!!! I never knew Fender made amps too!!!
The serrated "thingy" is for shielding. How effective it is I don't know.
Actually, that serrated thing is not for shielding (which even Fender currently calls a "shield" in new parts lists, the original name for the part was "Pickup Jaw"). Its actual purpose was to create a different magnetic field than previous Fender pickups. Leo's patents show the pickup's magnetic field being two rows of energy per pickup. The field started at the tip of the claw with an arc path to the center of the polepiece. The intention was to create a focused magnetic field that craeted a brighter sound.
... and now understand that the pickups on the '65 Jaguar have staggered pole pieces.
OK, here's a really dumb question: why stagger the pole pieces, if they're not adjustable?
By the way, Brian, did you see the Jag you mention at Songbird a few weeks ago? If so, I ended up buying it-- it plays and sounds great, puts the MIA reissues to shame, no comparison, far more punch & clarity.

Hi Rio45. No, the one I saw was at "The Guitar Shop" in Mississauga.
I did see one on Songbird's website. Was it a Sunburst?

The sunburst is the one.
The Guitar Shop is a little out of my way, I've only been there once, but they seemed to have some okay stuff, and I remember the service was really good.
