??) Whatever type of amp you like, however many amps you own or mess with, the most important parts of your rig are still your ears.
Keep those in good working and trustworthy order.

Ultra-mega gain will not make your guitar sound monstrous... it'll make it sound like a mosquito.

Ultra-mega gain is useless without scooped mids. :)

I've leaned quite a bit from various stuck-up pricks around here. Plus, they keep the kiddies in line.

That's OK. Apparently there's still some beer left.

If Fezz hasn't grabbed the last....oh, nevermind.

I guess there's still some wine left.

Whatever happened to wine coolers? Somehow, that two-liter bottle of Sun Country grapefruit crap seems like it would fit the festivities so much better.

Don't worry, I've still got a few up my sleeve, y'all.

    "Cork Sniffer"?
That would have a completely different meaning if it was from the movie 'Johnny Dangerously', wouldn't it? ;)

It would probably be "cork soaker" from there.

No matter what your thoughts are related to any given amp, pedal or guitar there are at least a 1000 who think you are wrong. For your ideas regarding "tone" ... there are a 1000000 who will disagree.

So true, but spend your hard earned (or easily earned for those lucky enough) money on anything the size of furniture, it's hard not to get emotionally attached.

My thing is (being in the criminal law game) is that it's like domestic violence. If the gear you love constantly beats you down, keeps you from your friends, and makes you sob quietly in the corner, then suddenly thrills you like its your honeymoon all over again, then goes right back into the cycle of pain... well... you need to muster your strength and just walk away.

And no, there is NOTHING funny about domestic violence in my opinion, but I still can't shake the analogy. If your gear abuses you, kick it to the curb, no matter how much you want things to work out.

pc, you know, I've learned that people who can do what you do every day are extraordinary. One of my friends is the assistant DA for our county. Every day he deals with stuff we *normal* folks tuck away in place we seldom visit. And when I think of this guy, I admire him for his compassion and humanity. It must take a really grounded person not to burn out in your biz.

Re: things I've learned about amps

Things I've learned about amps on TFF was to pay more attention to the details of the tone I wanted out of an amp. Once I got finished trying to make my HRDx sound good ie. (tubes and speaker)or (silk purse out of a sow's ear) I tested out the DRRI and really loved it for the music I play, I learned I get much more joy out of playing now. I also learned there is much better tone in my fingers than before. I'm more comfortable now to relax and enjoy playing without worrying about sounding crappy (amp wise) so.. that's what I learned in summer amp camp. Thanks TFF

Thanks Chuck. It's even worse now that I'm back representing abused & neglected kids in the Juvi/Domestic system. I spent this afternoon at Madison Correctional Institution listening to a guy give a deposition about why it really wasn't his fault that he had sex with all five of his daughters over a 7-year period. (I'm Guardian-Ad-Litem for the minor children in an action to take away his parental rights).

I actually thought about this thread while I was sitting there, because one of the things I've learned about amps is that everything I learn about amps helps scrub away the things I wish I never heard.

Sorry--that was a downer and didn't belong in this thread, but it was nice to read your post just now.
