    Blues lyrics - whaddaya think?

I'm happy to say that my band Mr. Thingee is getting it back together after nearly a two year hiatus.

We're working on drastically revamping the old material and writing some new stuff.

Anyway, new verse for the Been Mistreated By My Woman Blues. Does this work, ya think?

    I

One and one is two (da NAH na nuh)
Two and two is fo (da NAH na nuh)
fo and fo is eight (da NAH na nuh)
And the square root of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares of the two sides…

    IV - I
Having the blues so bad, my participles are dangling, baby.
Yee-ow, somebody gone get hurt that way!

    V – IV – I – V
My woman so low down and mean
She sold my ˝ inch Black and Deck hammer drill with keyless chuck on e-bay.

    Constructive criticism welcome. Thanks.
    s'all goof.

I believe the proper term is "Black and DeckER".

In the second verse, the second line:

"Yee-ow, somebody gone get hurt that way!"

    Try:

"Yeah, someone gon' get hurt that way."

Other than that, I think it says a lot about your skills as a lyricist.

    My baby's sister
    Said she'd come and stay
    Just one thing daddy
    Gotta send your baby away

    chorus

    Oh baby
Don't know what I'm gonna do
I'm a lucky man to have
    those sibling nibbling blues

    Oh yea.

Johnny Mercer wrote lyrics for a song called "The Square of the Hypotenuse" for some Danny Kaye movie.

The word also appears in "I Am The Very Model Of A Modern Major General" by Gilbert & Sullivan. ("... with many cheerful facts about the square of the hypotenuse.")

Also search for Ace Troubleshooter's "All I Ever Needed to Know I Learned in Calculus."

"Now I'm not trying to be obtuse...."

Now I'm thinking that there may be a band called "Hypotenuse."

Not as part of a song, but the scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz says it as well.

Ummm ... not to take a red pen to your homework but ... I believe it's "the square of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares of the two sides." Not square root. Darn Pythagoras!
