Betcha never saw one of these hanging in your local music store! This is what they did with all the surplus Fender XII bodies at the end of the '60s...

That's truly horrible. Sort of reminds of what that kid in the original "Toy Story" used to do with toys -- Sid, that was his name.

Sidocaster?
That's cool!
A friend in need is a good reason to screen your calls.
They also made the 'Swinger' out of them...

Obviously i'm talking about the guitar, not the guy there!
I've seen several Swinger/Arrow/Musiclanders, but never any Customs.
I like 'em. I'm not crazy about the headstock...but I really like the rest of the guitar.
I've actually considered getting a body in that same style from Warmoth and fitting it to an old Jackson neck I've got in the closet.

I saw a Custom once down at the old We Buy Guitars on 48th Street, a long, long time ago. Supposedly more common that the S/A/M's, but I've probably seen a half dozen of those, and only one of these.Originally Posted by BradKM
There's some picks in The Fender Book by Bacon and Day highlighting the grafting and plug filling that happened to make these guitars. Dan Forte also interviewed Babe Simoni, one of the guys behind these mutants back in the old Guitar Player magazine.
Some of these were also labeled "Maverick."

I've heard that the S/A/M's that are out there are fairly public...that is a lot of them are in the hands of dealers who take them to a lot of guitar shows, etc...and that these guitars change hands a lot because although they're weird, rare, and collectable...they aren't really good enough to inspire anyone to hold onto them for long.Supposedly more common that the S/A/M's, but I've probably seen a half dozen of those, and only one of these.

That makes sense, even though I don't go to guitar shows.Originally Posted by BradKM

I like the body!
If it had a Jag/JM vibrato and a 6-on-a-side it'd be pretty cool.
