Who had/has the best Strat tone?

Ok...here's a thread that I may be repeating from a previous one...but who in your opinion has given us the most definitive Strat tone? Are we going down the line that its in "the fingers" or is it a combination of the right gear too? I'd be really intersted in your opinions. For the record I'm torn between Rory, Jimi, and Beck!

Tough one. Depends on what time of day you ask me.

Right now, I'd have to say those two dudes in Plankton.

    ..I'm being totally serious.

Yeah....I realise that....I guess I should have said "in your opinion" now your thinking of tons of cool players. Check out my mate Gwyn Ashton and let me know what you think of his tone. DO a google search and you'll find his site! Happy playing

Re: Who had/has the best Strat tone?

Absolutely, hands down, it's me. My Strat tone kills. Walter Becker can't touch it, Chris Rea stopped playing after he heard my guitar.

Okay, I usually don't jump in with that kind of post, but Strat tone for what? SRV? Curtis Mayfield? Buddy Merrill? George Harrison? Lowell George?

That's why Strats rule. The versaility is off the charts, but the instrument always retains a character that makes you say, "that's a Stratocaster."

Let's mix it up. Which bass player has the best tone?

I agree with the preference for clean tones. Along those lines I would agree with early Dire Straits, and clean Hendrix stuff like Liitle Wing, and Wait Until Tomorrow.

Re: Who had/has the best Strat tone?

Jaco's tone is a funny thing. I absolutely love it and listen to my Jaco albums constantly. However, when someone else cops his tone, even as homage, I can't stand it.

Larry Graham's with Graham Central Station was awesome; but for me, with Sly, it was hit & miss.

I was just playing when I said Marcus Miller because I didn't say "In my opinion," which I've goaded OA about before. Marcus has a SUPER clean bass tone that always sounds like he just changed strings 45 seconds before making that recording. My own favorite though, in all honestly, is probably Victor Wooten's.

As for Strat tone, I gotta go with Gravity Jim.

I really love Joe Bonamassa's Strat tone too.

Re: Who had/has the best Strat tone?

I agree that there really isn't, or can't be a "best Strat tone."

But the circling figure that flows through all the verses of Rickie Lee Jones', "Flying Cowboys" is about the best use of a Strat I can picture for that particular situation. A fine choice of notes and instruments.
I think it was Sal Bernardi.
It's one of my favorite Strat sounds, and Strat licks ever.

Frusciante is really growing on me.....used to think he played strange but I've heard some tracks off the new album and I have been eating my words.....a very grown up thing to admit I have to say! CHeck out my mate Gwyn Ashton at www.gwynashton.com
He has a killer tone....I usually play guitar tech for him at gigs, his tone ALWAYS make me smile inside.

I love all the classic strat tones. Hank Marvin, Buddy Holly, Dick Dale, Jimi, Ritchie, Lowell, David Gilmour, etc. My current favorite is Sonny Landreth. Even in my own little world my favorites change from time to time but I don't lose any love for those I dug in the past.

I vote "clean" Hendrix - quotes used cause i liked it when he used a little Echoplex or whatever the delay thingie he used was.

My runner-up award goes to early Buddy Guy when he used that old strat he had - very gooood tone in there plus his fingers.
