What a couple of pussy cats.
Start a band and both of you play the pink kitties.

Right freaking on, brother!!!
That is my experience too - surprised at how good the pickup sounds. Digging the fantastic looks. Disappointed in how craptastic the setup is/was.
Good report. And, of course, YRIWWP*

It plays pretty decent now The neck is pretty thin, side to side, but I'm not planning on making it my main axe....yet.

How was the nut setup on yours, Kap'n?
And, may I ask, how are you going to shim the neck? I've never had to do that before but I too have the protruding saddle screws that can be a bit uncomfortable to run into.
The kitty is a rock and roll machine.

You guys gonna relic the kittys?
The nut was/is suprisingly good. A little high, maybe, but nothing major.Originally Posted by curtisstetka
For a shim, I used some really thin cardboard - to be specific, it was the cardbard hang tag from a "Fender 3-Way Switch" package. I cut a thin strip, about 1/4" wide, and doubled it over, as the screws were protruding around 1/16". I probably could have gotten way with a single thickness.
I loosened the strings, and capo-ed the strings at the first fret to keep them in place. I then pulled the neck, and stuck the shim at the bridge-most section of the neck/body joint, and reinstalled the neck. It worked perfectly!
FWIW, the kitty's got a really nice and tight neck joint. Who would believe it on an Indonesian guitar?

My 3 year old daughter is rapidly taking care of the relic job on my kitty.
I have to say I'm quite impressed with the fit and finish of the body. The paint job seems as good as any MIA solid finish guitar.

Hmmm, I could go nutty, and put on a concentric pot, or a pull switch for 'half-tone' or a gretsch style mud switch. Options....

Here's another one that might give you GAS and could be a good backup to the HK Strat ;) Plus it has a lipstick pup in the neck for more options!
I believe I will got for the concentric pot myself. I toyed with the idea of putting a neck pickup in there but that would mean routing the body a bit in addition to cutting up kitty's face. Having a tone control on there would probably be sufficient to make a little more flexible.Originally Posted by Kap'n

On a sort of related topic, I think the Daisy Rocks and Hello Kittys are a great idea. They sort of seem like pandering to an adult, but if that's what it takes to find people who find new guitarists that don't want to play downtuned drop D chugga-chugga-chugga stuff, how could it be bad?

Ooooh, I didn't know Daisy Rocks had _Custom Shop_ models!!!
As for tweaking the nuts, I think they are untweakable.
BTW, I've got a line on vintage Daisy Rock relic. Can't beat old wood...

I've managed to rework the molded plastic nut on cheaper guitars - here's how I do it:Originally Posted by Plugger
Remove the strings or make them really loose so you can pull them to either side of the nut.
Take a piece of soft pine and place it against the fretboard side of the nut. Lightly tap the end of the pine with a hammer, this should break the glue, allowing you to remove the nut.
Scribe a pencil line along the bottom of the nut edge representing the amount you need to lower the strings.
Put some 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper down on a flat surface and rub the bottom of the nut on it until you have sanded down to the scribed line. You can test the nut periodically as you sand by putting it back into the guitar without glue and tuning the guitar up. The strings will hold it in place.
I've done this successfully on my cheaper guitars.

"If something has a 1 in a million chance of occurring, 9 times out of 10 it will happen" -- Terry Pratchett
I wouldn't even think to look for a nut on a pink Kitty.

I've placed the call with "Deprogrammers-R-Us", but they say they are busy and it may take a while to get out here.
Apparently Pink Kitty Cat Strat fever is being reported in epidemic proportions... the stories all have similar features... middle-aged men, for no apparent reason, quitting their jobs, running down to music stores during working hours and demanding pink guitars. There is even an unconfirmed report that at least one high-ranking miltary officer, a USAF General, has been affected... nothing specific, though.
