    A B Box Hookup

Ok.. I have a couple of friends, one has an AB box and the other wants to get one. But I electrically I don't think they work they way they want to use them.

Picture this. Guitar into AB box. On the A side are pedals. On the B side are different pedals.

But chain A and B terminate into a Y adapter at a single amp.

I'm thinking that once you make that parallel connection at the amp, you are bridging the circuit. The guitar is not running through the other chain, but electrically, you just tapped the circuit which would then change the final signal to the amp.

    Am I right?

Nope. I used to do this very sort of thing.
A was pedals into a Quadraverb GT; B was pedals into a Chandler Echo. both outs went into the parallel inputs on a Blues Deluxe (original edition) and a SF DR. Never had a problem.

However, he may experience some impedence loading issues. Other, more educated heads than mine can figure that out; I only know that it worked for me.

However, one of those Looooper pedals is very very cool. OSA has one and loves it!

Yeah, just get a looper pedal with 1, 2, 3 loops or as many as needed. Heck, even get one with a Tuner/Mute and Master Bypass.

    From the Loooper website:
PUBLIC NOTICE: I am not currently able to take orders, as I have found out that I am near having carpal tunnel syndrome. I cannot build units by hand at this time, and I am unsure when I will be able to resume building.

Thank you for your patience during this time. I am terribly sorry for the inconvenience that has caused. If anything changes, I will post here.

    Truly,

An A/B box wouldn't work accurately in that situation. You need a box to A/B between two loops.

    Why not?

Essentially, the return is parallel just like the 2 input jacks on many amps. Other than impedence issues, why shouldn't it work? Since the pedals aren't bi-directional, I can't see why it wouldn't. It's just like dividing the flow of a river, sending part through a flume to a waterwheel, and then redirecting that flow back into the river.

    Re: A B Box Hookup

It will work but not as good as an A/B loop box. When you connect both signals at a Y splitter box, some of the live signal could bleed back into the unused line causing tone/volume loss.

Plus, if the A/B you're using grounds out the side you're not using at that particular moment, and that signal is connected to the Y splitter which is connected in parallel to the live signal at that moment, it will cancel that out so, you won't get anywhere.

As far as I know, the Morley A/B box does not use this grounding method so that box would work in that setup.
