    Portastudio 07

I'm having problems recording with this unit a friend gave it to me with no manual so I'm just kinda winging it.When I try too lay down the first track and play it back it sounds slow very slow I did try a different cassette player same thing tried adjusting the pitch control( I had it in the 12 o'clock position) no help!I did go to the Tascam site the manual is not available for down load.Any one out there with a clue as to what I'm doing wrong?

Is this an old 4-track style recording to cassette?

Most of these old Tascam machines have a switch that can speed up and slow down the tape speed when recording. The theory being that the more tape that passes over the tape head, the better the quality. For example, if you are recording 10 seconds worth of sound, you will get a better quality at high speed as that 10 seconds is spread out over more tape compared to normal speed.

    (Sorry, that's explained so badly!)

It sounds as if you are recording at high speed and playing back at normal speed. Are there any settings on the unit that may alter this?

I'm not sure how old the porta 07 is....could be it needs a new belt, if it's belt driven.

I've got several extra belts for my porta 246.

Not sure if it's the same belt, but I'd be happy to send you one if it is.
