    squier bass, advice please :D

My friend out of the blue gave me his standard squier jazz bass tonight..
It's pretty sweet, probley cause it's free..

But all I can think about right now is doing some sweet mods to it. Im gonna keep it cause my friend wanted me to have it.

So first off, is the pickups, what are some great drop in replacements? Is it possible to get active pickups??

And the bridge and wiring ? will US stuff fit on it ?

    Thanks guys !

first, pull the neck and drill out the body holes so the neck screw push thru them instead of threading thru.

if you want to go active, go for it, it'll fit. try a set of fender custom shop 60's jazz bass pups though.

a badass should fit, it fit on my squier. very nice upgrade.

on squiers the neck bolts thread thru the body and then thread into the neck. that's no good cause you don't get a very good clamp between the neck and body. if you drill them out so the screws can be pushed thru the body (make sure they aren't wobbly and loose though, that is no good either) then you will get a better connection when the two are bolted together. you will only have two points of anchor instead of 3. this is a good thing. be sure to use a drill bit the same size as the neck screw. if you have a drill index you should have the right one.

These Passive EMG's are nice. I have heard them in MIM basses and they have good tone/out put.

The bridges may help some, but starting with the guts (pups, pots, caps, etc.) gives you an ide where your tone os going. I like the squire necks generally. Some are better them others, but some seem really nice!
