Ye Olde Tele Jack Plate Problemo

What's the best fix? Glue, diff plate, etc?

What's wrong with it? It is held in place with the jack nut. Remove the control plate, stick yer finger in the back to stop it from spinning, tighten it down. A tiny bit of lok-tite will stop it from coming loose again. I've also used clear nail polish on the threads with the same result.

If only that easy - no control plate on Thinlines - have to remove large many holed pickguard. Nail polish on threads, eh?

    Oh.

Yeah, I've done Nail P plenty of times with good results. Actually, if it were me I'd pull the pickguard and put a star washer on the pot under the guard.

If you go nail polish, it's important to find a way to hold the jack still while you tighten. Spinning it could result in broken wires or a direct short if you cross something.

Someone suggested I super-glue the cup to body as well. Any problems with that?

    I'm not a bastard, I'm a prick. There's a big difference.

But seriously, the super glue... NEVER do that.

You really will be very unhappy with the nearly certain result of that move, as several threads in past TFF years can attest to.

    I'm so serial.

Ok, you're losing me. Are we no longer on the Thinline?

If we are on a regular ol' Tele now, a standard jack cup will work fine, use a star washer or one of the other tricks. The electrosockets work very well, I like them. They are not 'necessary' though.

Thinline has giant pickguard, yet trad Tele style jack-cup. Ya got me thikin tho Telecast, wondering if I can put in a std. Tele control plate and a smaller custom pickguard. Sure would make it easier to tighten jack & do other electronic stuff. Think I'll do some measuring next time the pickguard is off...

I don't think the routing under the guard will let you.

Ahhh, but with a creative pickguard - flush up to the control plate at the right spot - anything is possible! But then again the routing around the controls may b too wide for a std control plate. Maybe two pickguards, big bro & lil sis...?
