Fender® Limited Edition Deluxe Vintage Player '62 Stratocaster?

Are these only at Musician's Friend? I have a major boner for one of these, but I was wondering if anyone out there has one? Can you share your thoughts? What the hell, share your thoughts even if you don't own one of them. Have you guys played em'? Heres some pics from the MF website.

    I love the blue one.

    Specs,

The vibe of a '62 with modern electronics and playability.

The Deluxe Vintage Player '62 Strat is a seamless blend of vintage style and modern feel. The foundation is a vintage '62 with such appointments as the original-style tuners, bridge, and aged plastic parts. 3 Samarium Cobalt Noiseless pickups and Deluxe American Strat electronics (including S-1 switching) provide rich, modern Strat tone. The 9-1/2" neck radius and medium-jumbo frets enourage you to dig out your best licks. Olympic White model has a Thin Skin finish, only seen in Custom Shop models until now.

Fender® Limited Edition Deluxe Vintage Player '62 Stratocaster Features:

    Alder body
    Maple neck
    Rosewood fretboard
    9-1/2" radius
    Medium-jumbo frets
    White dot markers
    Vintage tuners and hardware
    Aged plastic parts
    3 Samarium Cobalt Noiseless pickups
    S-1 switching

They're a run from last year. I've ordered two from MF and sent them both back. The first one had a bad neck, way too much relief, and the truss rod was fully tight. The 2nd one must've weighed 9 lb.s! These tend to run heavy for some reason.

I still want to get a white one but not a boat anchor.

Thats a drag, they look like they should be a great strat. I really like the thin finish, the whole vintage vibe, but with the 9.5 neck radius. I hope they aren't all dogs. Are they not in production anymore? I only have half the money so i have to wait before I can try to order one, hopefully they will still be around when Im ready.

I like those specs too, I'm hoping Fender comes out with something like that as a legit model.

You know, Thats a good question, I just assumed that they were American. Does anyone know where they are crafted? I personally like the blue one, but I wish they had a candy red one .

I thought that the 'Deluxe Vintage Player' model was a U.S. model.

The 'Vintage Player' was a limited edition MIM model from a couple years ago that was initially made for the European market. A few were eventually made available through Musician's Friend, until they sold out.

They both have some features in common, 9.5 radius, med. jumbo frets, staggered tuners, shielded cavity, vintage bridge..I think the pickups are different (the MIM came stock with Texas Specials)

They're U.S. Fender took a U.S. Deluxe and gave it a thin finish and vintage trem and Klusons. Cool model. I wish the white didn't have gold hardware.

the music store my cousin works at has had one on the wall in that blue color. Looks good, I've held it but never played it. I'm a fan of painted headstocks

Originally, the painted headstock was one of the features that I really wanted the guitar for, but the white one has the "thin skin" finish, so I'm going with that one. (otherwise i dont think i will be able to afford a Thin Skin guitar).

Re: Fender® Limited Edition Deluxe Vintage Player '62 Stratocaster?

These are 62ri USA bodies and hardware with a USA Dekuxe neck and pickups and electronics. Thats the Deluxe Vintage Player.

The Vintage Player Strat like cooltone said was a limited edition model 750 units were made 250 in each color those are like a 50's-60's Classic MIM Strat with special Tx Specials all USA hardware bridge pickup wired to tone control 9.5 MJ frets.

Then there is the Deluxe Player Strat which is an MIM model with vintage noiseless pickups 12" radius MJ frets.

You need a small data base to keep all these models straight hahah.

Two questions (I asked Fender too, but maybe me asking here will help others with the same question).
1.) What is the trem block made out of on these? (I might want the Callaham)

2.)The spec sheet says 21 fret neck but these guitars clearly have 22 fret necks, what's up with that?

    <ok three questions>

3.) The Fender guy that responded said he didn't have the production numbers on this model. Does anyone know how many were made?

    Thanks!

Re: Fender® Limited Edition Deluxe Vintage Player '62 Stratocaster?

    Here's the second response I got;

    "Hi Matt,

1.) On the spec sheet you sent me, it says these guitars have 21 frets, but on the models I have seen online and in person they have 22 frets. Was the 22 fret neck a last minute change?

Looks like that was just listed wrong on the spec sheet. These guitars do come with a 22 fret neck.

2.) Do you know what the trem block is made out of on the American Vintage
Synchronized Tremolo with "Ash Tray" Bridge Cover?

The block on this bridge is made from cold rolled steel.

    Best regards,

    "

So, is "cold rolled steel" the same as the Callaham block?

P.S. Fender really did respond quickly gotta give em a !

Re: Fender® Limited Edition Deluxe Vintage Player '62 Stratocaster?

The steel in the USA Vintage trem blocks is a different formula than Callaham uses and the string holes are also drilled deeper.

From 1954-1969 all Fender tremelo blocks were like the Callaham ones.

besides the EJ Strat trem block all the newer ones are drilled different than the originals and use a different blend ot materials than the original did.

I wanted to bump this as I orded the Ice Blue Metallic one yesterday. Does anyone own one of these or any more comments?

And one question. What's the sonic difference in thin skin and not thin skin.

I have the white one, and I dont really think the "thin skin" has that much of an aural effect. That being said, I F'ing love this strat. I don't think I could get anything better even for twice as much cash. IMHO this thing destroys the EJ strats I have demoed.

A little late to this thread, but Wildwood had these (or one damn close to it). They were a Factory Special Run (FSR).

Yep, here it is and note the price! The MF is a real deal if the guitar itself turns out okay.

Can anyone tell me what the neck profile on these is like? I really don't one a thin neck and I'm afraid this is on the thin side.

If your used to Les Paul historics and Nocaster big necks a 62ri is gonna feel slim but since these are just 1/2 of a 62ti the neck is actually fron a Deluxe and they arent real thin just a med C shaped neck.

I'm bumping this thread up...I just took a chance on one of these online (MF...gulp!). I've never really embraced Stratocasters - I had a REAL crappy one back in the 70's and a less than inspiring Mexican made one in the 90's. I'm gonna give Strats one more try (Les Paul Historic guy here). This one has everything I was looking for in a Strat (except for the noiseless pups and no bone nut). The 9.5" radius is more to my liking, yet different enough from the 12" radius on my Les Paul R8 to still feel like a Strat. The 'C' shaped neck, rosewood board and nitro-finish (Ice Blue Metallic)...all good. It even has a matching painted headstock - something I have lusted for in a Strat ever since I saw a photo of Ry Cooder with one - BONUS! I have been waiting for something like the EJ Strat with a rosewood board to come along - this is the closest I have found in a production American made Fender Strat. This one went for just under 900 bucks and I had $150.00 rebate from MF burning a hole in my pocket. All this for under 750 bucks - I am really rooting for this one to work out! I will post a review when it arrives.

Let us know. I've ordered two from MF and sent them back. One had a truss rod that would not adjust the neck. Too bad that was a nice one. The other was a boat anchor. I've heard that a lot of these are quite heavy weight.

I will. I can live with a little extra weight if the guitar is resonant. My 8.5 lbs Les Paul Historic is that way - I'm kinda spoiled. What's a good weight range for an American Strat these days (non custom shop)?

I just received mine tonight and I am very pleased so far. The neck is just what I expected - the modern 'C' with the medium jumbos is very smooth. The factory set up is pretty close to my liking too. This guitar is pretty light - I'm guessing 8 lbs or less. The neck has a nice bit of relief to let me do some deep bends comfortably. I will be putting heavier gauge strings on her along with parking the tremolo bar down a bit firmer. I gotta have the tuning stability and I'm not much for dramatic whammy stuff but I'll use it on occasion I'm sure. The real surprise was the S-1 switching and the SCN pickups! Very nice. I plugged into my THD Univalve and my Fender Champ and found MANY tones available - including the 'classic' Strat tone (which may be a bit more polite than 'vintage' but I'm still tweeking). I can't wait to hear and feel this guitar after it's set up exactly to my liking. Maybe I'll post some pics later.
    Very pleased...and what a bargain!

This guitar is still great! I use it for teaching so it is constantly in and out of the gig bag I use. That being said, it stays in tune VERY well, it feels great and it sounds good. I have the white one, and I changed the pickguard to a parchment one, and I rubbed almost all of the gold off of the hardware. Lastly I haven't really kept up with the maintenance of the nitro finish, but it still looks pretty good, no checking (and I leave it in the car a lot). All in all, it is a keeper and a decision I am glad I made! Rock and Roll!

I'm getting the Ice Blue one, with the painted headstock. Should have it late this week.

I like the idea of vintage feel, with modern wiring.
