    1968 Greenback hiss....

I put in a old greenback speaker into my blues deluxe.. sounds great at low volume... when the volume is up theres a lot of hiss.. not great for microphone use! one of the contact pins is loose.. leading from the cab to speaker(red)..I'll have to get a new one... the speaker itself is in good shape no damage. Any one know whats causing the hiss and how to eliminate? Cheers.

Speakers don't cause hiss, amps do.

However, the greenback might have extended high end response that makes the hiss louder (I don't know, but I'd guess it does).

If you've got some preamp tubes lying around, try swapping them around.

cool... was hoping that I could be fixed... I had to take the amp apart to install the speaker could I have done something when putting it back together?

Probably not. I'd guess that the speaker just exposes the already existing hiss a bit more.

However, as I mentioned, some tubes hiss more than others. Probably V1, the tube furthest from the power transformer/power tubes.

sounds good in mine something different about the distortion/break up.. nice! its a T12 81 which I think is a bass speaker wrong impidance for guitar? I heard a old tale that hendrix loved them but blew them too often... its code is T1281 AK5... I looked it up as A being 1968.. K october.. 5.. 5th day.. maybe miles off the mark! but got it for nothing...
