Good list, tough to add anything to it. I'd have to include Billy Gibbons, though. When he's not playing Pearly he can sure get some nice tones from a strat as well.

I see a few missing names...Mark Knopfler, Danny Gatton and Robbie Robertson should certainly be on the list . A personal favorite that may not be as well known is blues guitarist Anson Funderburgh.

Buddy Guy takes it to another level, but I've not seen Mick Taylor with too many Strats (if any). He's much more of a Les Paul man, isn't he? Regardless, his solo on "Time Waits For No One" is one of my favorite solos, anywhere by anyone.

I know Keef and Jagger "get on" better with Woody, but the "Taylor Era" saw the Stones at their creative apex, IMO. The contrast of Taylor's fluid runs over Keef's chunka-chunka riffs made them THE guitar dynamic duo. Too bad he ever left. I understand it, but just too f'n bad. :wah

Tommy Bolin was really a great strat player... Not as well known as some others, but he was awesome!

From Zephyr to the James Gang to his solo work and collaborations with Billy Cobham, Alphonse Mouzon, Deep Purple, Jeff Beck and others. He was amazing. Too bad he bailed before his time...

Mick Taylor plays a strat in "All Star Blues Jam," or something like that. I bought the DVD off of towerrecords.com. It's pretty good, the jam is hosted by John Mayall and some of the A-List of blues greats show up. Some of the guitar playing is too nasally for me, but over-all it's a good show. :bigal

Why is Jimi Page so high on the original list? Besides Zep 1 he's known for his Les Paul tones. Don't get me wrong, I love his music, but to have Jimmy Page above Keith Richards as a favorite Fender Player is odd to me.

    GeetarGoul,

My original list wasn't actually a ranking... As the names just came to mind, I typed 'em... :tw59

I had no idea Gary Moore played a Fender, I thought he was strictly a Humbucker guy.

Moore is definatly one of my favorites.

Gary Moore plays the strat alot even though he is most known for playing humbucking guitars. His next album which is due in a few months is supposed to be all stratocaster.I have seen some videos of Gary playing his strat and he simply amazes me, I think I would almost rather see Gary playing a strat than a Les Paul.

eric clapton, vince gill, danny gatton, and so on and so on.

    Yep

Good thing to see my old friend Albert Lee on the list. He ought to be on any top guitarist list. Most greats (maybe not the "shredders" but then, are they....) are big Albert Lee fans.

Here he is on stage with me 4 years ago:
