USA vs Mexican? Old vs New

I am in the market for a new Jazz Bass. I want a Standard as opposed to a Deluxe because I have an external preamp and I will NEVER part with it. (Sadowsky Pre-amp/DI).

I was wondering what opinions you folks can offer. Do I want a 1999? 2004? 1991? What are the good years? Is there any bass I should just avoid?

I bought a '99 or '00 MIM Jazz Bass new so I could play a little bass along with my guitar playing.
My bass is pretty darn good, although there were some real turds in the store.
I ignored the color and played MIM Std. Jazz and Precision Basses until I found the best one.
I put TI flats and a push/pull pot for series/parallel switching on it.
In the years that I've owned it, I've only had to adjust the truss rod once.

I hear that they've made subtle improvements on them since mine, but mine is a good bass.

I bought a used 2001 MIM P-bass off eBay, and it's my main player right now. (giving my '75 P and my '51 RI a rest)

I've been very happy with it so far.
