Hey! The fake Tele is back on ebay, but this time....

He's trying to be a good boy, even though he still calls it a Tele. At least the bids are in the right zone. I see one retracted bid too.

Here's someone's chance to buy it and see if it really is a good guitar!

    Anybody?

Nicely cropped photo of the headstock. Nice sharp photos in general.

The dude just couldn't let it go.

Could Fender shut it down due to it having a fake headstock sticker?

I don't have that much of a beef with him calling it a Tele.
The general style is, you know, Tele-ish. He left -caster off.
But he still refers to it as vintage! :lol

I still say all it really needs is a Bigsby.:yay

At least the story about it being his daddy's is gone.

I just noticed he's from La.
Maybe it IS a Tele, but it got deformed by Katrina.

First off that's not a Fender product at all. Look at the back of the headstock profile and the four bolt neck plate the spacing is too narrow on the neck screws. I have a teleish just like it that I keep around for my kids and their friends to play on..mine is old but a piece of junk just like this one.

OBVIOUSLY a fake! A real Edward Tele would have a maple neck and a Floyd Rose!
...and on the 8th day, God created the Super Reverb and there was ROCK, and it was GOOD!

When it comes to teles i don't really have a clue. I mean, sure for some reason it looks odd and i can't put my finger on it, but why is it so obvious to you that it is a fake? Couldn't it have a replacement neck?

Hang around for a while Jonnda and it will become obvious. It's just one of those things a person gets good at over time if it's a strong hobby or interest.

There are some very obvious differences. First and foremost, the truss rod cover. Teles never had a truss rod cover. The seller realizes this and removed it leaving a gaping hole. Note the cropped headstock that deletes that part. The headstock shape is wrong. The neck pickup is too far back. The bridge pickup adjustment screws are reversed (the single screw should be at the front). The list goes on, but these are the things that jump out immediately.

I just checked the auction again, it's up to $255, with the high bidder having '0' feedback. Probably a shill.

Buyer beware. It's obvious to anyone who is a Fender afectionado that the guitar is not a Fender and should sell for well under $150 at the outside. But like we all know a Sucker is born every minute. This guitar would make nice kindling but that's about it.

Ok, see this is what i am talking about. I'd never pick up on the pick up being in the wrong place, or the bridge screws for that matter. This is not obvious to me. I have played a tele for the grand total in my life time: less then 20 minutes. It is a beat up old esquire owned by my guitar teacher. It has been through allot, prior owner refinished the body poorly and tried to make his own pick ups or something. Now it has a vintage PAF in the neck, some after-market strat PU in the middle and a tele pup (original?) in the bridge. So all i am saying is I know my bullet and strats more then teles. but it is fun to learn.

Don't underestimate the power of years of guitar lusting. Like T-B said, hang around and you'll get it. Or, if this scares you -- and maybe it should -- run away. :lol

That's hilarious. Lets see how many retractions he gets. I wonder if it has to do with this thread. I do plan to stick around and get it, even if i don't ever get it (i.e. buy a tele).

Damn! There's no way to contact the top bidders. I'm almost tempted to hijack the photos and do my own auction calling that piece of crap exactly what it is. If only I cloud be sure someone wouldn't actually try to buy it or ruin my feedback rating. I feel bad for those people bidding. That guitar isn't worth $25 let alone $255!

Re: Hey! The fake Tele is back on ebay, but this time....

I just sent "ebay security" an alert. We'll see what happens.

This guitar has been listed before but this time the seller has deceptively added an aged looking "Fender" decal and purposely hidden some of the tell tale details which would reveal this guitar as a fake. I'm shocked that anyone with such a high feedback rating is actually trying to pull a stunt like this.

NOTICE: The top bidder just e-mailed me back. I invited him to stop by.

$455 and no sign of stopping. Well, I guess we can't save everyone from themselves. I hope whoever gets it wants to keep it for a long, long time.

Ya know whats really sad is, I e-mailed the high bidder last night and he's still at it. I wonder if he's a bogus bidder created by the seller to drive the price up.

Lets start taking bets on whether it makes yet a third appearance on ebay!!!

Unfortunately the original auction where pizzlewip bought this guitar... you know, back when it had a truss rod cover and no Fender decal.... is no longer available.... It looks like the "barny fifes" at ebay took down the wrong auction...

$465 with 41 minutes on the clock. Who will "win" this wondrous "thing", for want of a better word?
