For Sale: 1 70's Telecaster, missing truss rod cover...

And has a zero fret. Look at the bridge, specifically the Pup mounting screws. Look at the neck Pup placement. The neck. The headstock...Yeesh.

Someone is going to get screwed. It's a little over $500 right now.

    Whatta deal!

    "This guitar screams vintage vibe."

It screams somethin', alright. Jebus, will these idiot clichés NEVER die?

And you're right, somebody is about to get reamed.

A Tele that had a truss rod cover? Of course the non original switch tip is going to ruin the deal.

Looks like an early 90's MIM toploader body who knows what the neck is.

Re: For Sale: 1 70's Telecaster, missing truss rod cover...

I just reported it to ebay as a fraud. I'm a firm believer in Caveat Emptor, but I've learned that someone else emailed the seller and received no response. Based on that, I think it's safe to say the seller knows exactly what he has. (or doesn't have) And if not, then I'm helping to save him from himself.

Oh, it "screams vintage vibe," alright but if you listen hard closely, it kinda' mutters, "I'm not quite a Tele." :toobad

Whatever it is, I really wouldn't mind finding it at a flea market and giving it a strum or two. It's just wacky enough to catch my eye.

Re: For Sale: 1 70's Telecaster, missing truss rod cover...

If one of the bidders has other items for sale you can contact them that way. I just alerted a guy to a couple of bogus '79 Strat p'ups that way. No phtots of the underside, staggered poles, no date code, shielded cable, wrong mounting springs and the mounting screws were not only different diameters but different lengths.

With the trussrod cover, etc, looks like it could be an Ibanez or similar MIJ copy neck from the '70's..with a Fender decal stuck on it.

Okay, lets see what's wrong with it:

    Neck:
    Tuners
    Headstock
    Possibly string trees and
    the truss rod cover

    Body:
    Top horn (hump?)
    Neck pickup
    pickguard
    vol/tone knobs
    Bridge plate
    Neck screws' locations

    So basically, EVERYTHING. :rofl

How do people like this retain a 99.3% satisfaction rating?

It's a real shame, isn't it? But the people who bid on this stuff are clueless. Some guy wins the guitar for $500, is convinced he stole it at that price, leaves positive feedback. By the time someone points out what it is, it's too late. The feedback can't be retracted or changed.

If anyone else sends an email, they should include a link to this thread so the bidder can see what's happening. If I got an email like that, I might think someone was trying to get me to retract my bid so they could get it.

Good luck... It's a shame that someone with that good of a feedback rating would be pulling a scam like that.... what a jackass.

Problem is, our prejudices are more important to us than our sense of music. What if it's the greatest playing and sounding Tele style guitar ever built? Then it's a bargain!

Yes, and if the prospective buyer makes that decision after he understands what he's bidding on, then so be it. That was not the case. The guy was getting scammed, and he was made aware.

Why don't you call the seller and offer him $500 just in case it's a great guitar?
