    string ferrules

I am considering sprucing up my 70's era 'bitsa' Tele and one of the little touches I am thinking about is mounting the string frerrules in the back flush with the body. This seems like an obvious thing to do but I notice that almost nobody does this. Is there a reason this isn't commonly done?

They're not flush on my '96 Am. Sted. Tele but they are on the USACG T-Style that I built.

It cost more to add the small counterbore to the holes.

I like them a lot better flush.

They're below the surface on my 1998 Collectors Edition Tele.

be sure to use a forstner bit when you do it. that way the hole's flush.

So there seems to be no particular reason why they are not flush other than saving a step in the production process? I can see this for Fender but I wonder why people building high end guitars like Anderson take the extra time to mount them flush?
