    Man, thats looks great

Is this hard to do? I have a sweet MIJ RI strat, but I would love to do it in a different colour and shoot it with nitro. A few questions:

    1. Is the reranch nitro in a can etc. easy to use?
    2. How long does the nitro take to cure?
    3. What happens if you get dust etc. on when it's drying?
    4. How do you get a high gloss finish afterwards?
    5. Can you use any paint and epoxy remover?

    Thanks
    Reinhard

    1. Is the reranch nitro in a can etc. easy to use?
I don't know because I've never used the stuff. From all reports it works pretty good. I either buy cans of lacquer & reducer, & then mix & spray it w/a gun, or I buy rattle cans & empty the contents into a gun.
About nitro: It is hard to find & pricey if you want a color mixed. Some places have a minimum of one gallon. I priced some PPG acrylic lacquer today & it was over $50 for a pint! Can you imagine what a pint of nitro would be? Also, red based colors are going to be more expensive than other colors. Many Fender custom colors were acrylics anyway, so it is "vintage approved" stuff. I don't think there were ANY Fender metallics that were nitro.

    2. How long does the nitro take to cure?
A couple of weeks should be good. W/lacquer, the longer it sits the better. Six weeks would be great if the area temp is high.
    3. What happens if you get dust etc. on when it's drying?
I take out some debris w/teezers or a needle when the lacquer is fresh, & maybe give a couple quick passes to try to get it to flow out. If that doesn't work then I just take it out w/an Exacto knife before the final rubout, & viola! A relic is born.
It's not too bad, really. Lacquer will dry to the touch in about five minutes. That doesn't mean you can handle it a bunch, though. I'm just saying a lot of stuff won't stick to it after a couple of minutes.

    4. How do you get a high gloss finish afterwards?
Rubbing & polishing. If you do a search you can find a bunch of info on the forum, a lot of it in the Clone Zone. I use a two different sponge-type applicators that fit on a hand held drill attachment. Swirl remover will remove swirls (duh).
    5. Can you use any paint and epoxy remover?
I don't know of any other products with that name other than Jasco. Air Craft is another poly stripper, but I've had best results w/the Jasco stuff.
