    Squire Mini

...review by Frank Thomson (person extroadinaire`)

Squire Mini Strat, 20 frets, MII, nice red paintjob, top mounted plate/bridge, i ply pg, 2 knos/tone/vol/ , 3 alnico pups, and a swimming pool route, Lotta neat features, imo. rw neck.
Now, i'm not a guitar-player, i'm a guy who plays guitar. Big diff!

to me, it plays really nice. the pups actually sound good, they sound like they should be in a $150 guitar. I got this one for $69.99. Unless you get a splinter, it's a decent guitar. I only had to set intonation on 1 string. Neck is smooth/satiny like MII stuff.L ookd very perportionate and tight, The fret ends could use a little polshing, but,,,,for $69.99.......c'mon!

and the peace d`resistance is i get a free gigbag, the quality of a dlx bag.

oh, and change the strings immediately, if not sooner.

so, I like it lots, and don't see me selling it.
    ....so buy your own, dammit!

    Re: Squire Mini

I paid 99.00 for ours, still cheap, I could swear the pickups are ceramics, not Alnico. In any case, they are some of the best sounding ceramics I've heard.

I already told my kid I was keeping it if he outgrows it or losses interest. I just has too much value. A REAL guitar in a small package you can take almost anywhere.

I think I only had to do minor intonation tweaks also. I've seen much worse. I strung ours with 10's and it plays great. I don't over bend nearly as much as I though I would. I shielded ours, just because I always do and I changed the switch tip. The import ones just look odd to me.

I've been toying with entering that GC guitar competition. Since I'm not a young wanker, I thought I'd just use the mini for comic relief.

    Re: Squire Mini

I'd considered one of these for my 10 year old. He's got my old Ibanez RG, but the full scale is a bit much for his hands. A guy at the local music store said these mini squiers dont intonate too well but you guys seem to have good results. Do you think it's a worthwhile purchase for my kid?

    Thanks!

for 69.99....you should get one for yourself, too.....

the mini epi *V*s dont intonate well.....this one is pretty good....seems as if 3/4 scale intonates, 1/2 doesnt....imo

My deal is if they loose interest, I get it. This one I'll keep for myself. That's why you see so few used ones up for sale.

The are killer guitars you can almost stick in a suitcase.

    Here's mine.
    Got for about $58.
I got it for my 4 year old son.
The thing was hanging on his knees!
When I took it of his shoulders it hit his head.
So he was crying and yelling stupid guitar!
Guess I have to wait for that magic moment for him to discover the guitar again.
I the mean time I'm taking it onstage next friday and look goofy!

    Re: Squire Mini

My 8 year old has one, but I have not been able to keep his interest going on it. He is much more fragile than my other son. My other son took to it when he was 10, but right before then tuned 11.

I really like the mini, and it hangs on his wall. I don't intend to get rid of it because it makes a great travel guitar.

    Re: Squire Mini

that's funny, i was just thinking of giggin mine on sat

and almost a year later, i still have it
i think photo nailed it about getting to keep it even if your kid dont want it
    win/win

and photo, good idea w/ the 10's....tighten-up that bad boy...and you're prob right about the ceramics.

and luca, just leave that guitar in a corner in your kids play room
he'll pick it back up real-quick

i permanantly shortened a strap and put on a set of schaller locking straplocks so it dopesnt accidently fall off
ya know, kid-proffing a kid guitar
    lol

I just bought my daughter the pink Hello Kitty one. I play it all the time when she's not around. It's perfect for in front of the TV or the Computer. If she outgrows it or loses interest I'll paint it black and It'll prolly be my most played guitsr due to prximity!
