So, is it definitely going to be on Sunday? If so, I might be able to make it, but my son won't. He just got a gig playing Christmas songs every Sunday from late Novemebr through December in Princeton. That kind of music isn't his first choice, but the money is good.

It is definitely Sunday December 4th.

Plus I think I live too far away anyways. Maybe I'll just come and grin while y'all do the pickin' :)
Wonder if anyone has a NE Pa. jam going.

Annie, it's at the bottom of the very first post.
MMP, there are a few people coming from PA. You'll be among your own statesmen.
As for lead playing? If I never played another solo it wouldn't matter to me. Soloing is highly over-rated! I have a few friends who can burn the place down with their solos but who couldn't get a rythm groove on if their lives depended on it. Far as I'm concerned, guitar playing consists of about 98% rythm and 2% soloing. Why everyone thinks soloing is so important just escapes me. Your expert rythm chops would be a most welcome addition to our little jam. Good rythm encourages people to sing, get happy, drink more and who knows, maybe even take their clothes off! LOL!

Awww man how can I refuse, that's too close to miss. Is that near that "Trolley Stop Cafe" 'cause my sister lives right near there.
Should I wear a shirt that say's "_john"
(at least until my reputation preceeds me that is)..heh heh
It'll be cool to meet some real people. At the very least my fiance will believe that I haven't been up in my room writing to myself.
Is this a "spirit" free event or byob or what??
:ahem = = :lhg
LOL........expert rythm? Find the true meaning of "expert" by breaking the word down into parts. "ex" means used to be, former. "spurt", is a drip under pressure. hahahahahahahahaha Oh my! That might be me
_john, I will be providing soft drinks and food. Whatever alcohol people choose to bring is up to them.
MMP, you're gonna be just fine. It's a real cool environment to play in. Just ask anyone who's ever been to one of these. It does get loud at times, but there are lots of people like yourself who just come to play and enjoy. It's not a contest.

A bit closer to the event we'll take a roll call and I'll make up labels trhat have the TFF name and avatar printed on them...Originally Posted by _john

Bob, I mentioned the jam to wardog who will try to make it as well. And let me know if you need a drummer. Four or five jams ago I brought a guy named Mark who held his own nicely.
"I got murder in my heart for the judge."
Yes! Bass players and drummers are always needed! Thanks Mark.

Man I'm getting jealous. Sounds like you guys are going to have a great time. I've heard stories about T-B's infamous jams. One of these days I'd love to make it to one. Think I'd still be a bit too nervous to get up and play now anyway. Maybe someday though. Hope you guys have a great time.
Stratking - trust me - everybody has a good time, no matter how much they play - love your avatar - one of my favorite albums...

Yo, what GibsonJunkie said! People come from as far away as Maine, Philadelphia PA and even our homies out in Rochester NY!
There are three seperate rooms to jam in, and everyone jumps in eventually. I make regular rounds to see that the players circulate, drummers and bass players are moved around as needed, and we even coax a jam out of those having trouble just standing there with their guitar looking goofey! LOL!
One day at a jam is equal to 10 days at home practicing by yourself. There's nothing like getting in there with good players who will help you along.

No way man! I was uh, taking about, uh, that guy, you remember that guy with the, uh, Stratocaster right? You know the guy, his name escapes me right now, but he was definitely playing a Strat. Easy to spot.
LOL! Actually, no gj, I was simply making a general statement about some of the people who look a little lost at times until one of us geezers goes over there and encourages them to play.

I'd really like to meet all the people that get to go.

No excuse JAM! I got on a plane and flew to Florida, California and Oregon just for jams. Then I drove from New Nampshire to Rochester NY to Maryland for jams. I am a little weird though. I just love a road trip!

Actually we've had several California jams, but our Numero Uno Leader moved to AZ and the next hosts started a business and are floored with exhaustion.Man, no jams in California
Why don't YOU host one?
Last year we could fly cross country for $300 now it's $900.

Annie, you really know how to make me blush. I can not tell you all how much I miss jamming with my NorCal buds.
For anyone on the fence about whether or not to go to a TFF jam, let me set your minds at ease. As T-B says, it's not a contest. It's not "My hot licks can top your hot licks." It's about the camaraderie of meeting people whose posts we've come to know but whose face and in-person conversation we've never had the chance to enjoy.
It's about discovering that the poster whose posts crack you up is even funnier in person because of the immediacy of the interaction.
It's about being able to ask a question about tone, amp settings, technique and practice habits in a non-judgemental setting where the only dumb question is the one that needs to be asked but isn't asked.
Sure, there will be players of widely varying skill levels and some of the playing you'll hear will absolutely knock your socks off. But the other side - the side where a relatively new player takes a deep breath and ventures out into the world of public playing for the first time, hands sweating and heart pounding - is often even more exciting. Every single person there will be rooting for you to relax and blow yourself away with the fact that YOU DID IT!
And every player will be respected.
Even those damn harp players.
I miss playing. My injuries from the auto accident don't allow me to play any more, and it tears me up.
Don't miss any opportunity to get out and share the joy of playing in public with others.
You never know when those chances will be gone.
Have fun, folks!

Wow. I know it doesn't help much, but you have my sympathy, Sacblues. I hope you condition improves and you are able to play again.Originally Posted by Sacblues
Oh, and about TFF jams, all the above posters are correct. I've been to a couple of Tele-Bob's and have always been made to feel at home, even though most of the other attendees were/are far more accomplished players.

That's not a bad idea. Maybe a some of us SoCal TFF members could work together on this.Originally Posted by Annie D.
JAM, not to get too far off topic here, I would suggest that if you want to host a jam, just find a venue, like a bar, VFW Hall, rehearsal studio or private residenece and calculate your expenses, if any.
Once you know what the cost is, and you're willing to bear the expense if the turnout doesn't cover it, you can then make your announcement.
If you try to do this with the cooperation of others it often flounders and seldom ever gets up to speed.
The best, easiest way to do it is to just do it. Find the venue, get the price, (if any), and make your intentions known on the board. Be sure to hype it a little and they will come. There are lots of people who would love to jam but do not have the opportunity one of these get togethers provide. There are also lots of people who would love to put the faces to the names and share a few laughs.
Once you have the logistics covered, post it. If it looks like there's enough support, go for it!

I've been learning some tunes, so I should be able to play more than "Slow Shuffle in A" this time.
Shoot RJ an e-mail. Also, Check with OffshoreAngler, I think he's planning on makin' the run!
