Very early on (mostly in 1950), you'll see DZ (Dickie Zamora). The initials TD and AG have also been sighted on early Fenders according to A. Duchossoir.
As for the '54 Strat, I play it all the time. :lhg I have no problem gigging out with it. The day I can't bear to play it, is the day it is sold to someone who can live with that burden. :bummer
Forgot to mention some more names/initials that show up on early Fenders...
Eddie or sometimes EM (I've seen these in a few early Tele neck pockets). According to AR Duchosssoir, this apparently stood for Eddie Mendoza. TAD, presumed Tadeo. Kenny, IP and JS. I think JS stands for John Staunch. You can see a photo of him working on a neck ca. 1950 on page 90 of FENDER - The Sound Heard 'Round the World.
Dinobyte,
Thanks for the Tadeo Gomez information. For many years I wondered about this magic craftsman and thanks to you now I know. I have a few of his masterpieces and I am most appreciative of his skills. Sorry to hear he has passed perhaps without knowing peoples appreciation of his work. I was curious to hear why he left Fender under Leo's command.

The neck pocket of my 58 has: Nannie written in it.
Has anyone herd of her from the factory in the late 50's?
Kim
I saw a 59 Maple Neck Olympic white Strat that had Nanna in it.....Maybe it was Nannie written slopily?
Mrs. Tarantino: Are you the police?
Elwood Blues: No, ma'am. We're musicians.
DANG! Lookit all the router marks in the neck pocket/body cavities! That's hand made, dude!
Also note: It's unusual to see any red pigment sprayed on the treble side of the top. For every two guitars you spray that way, you save enough red to spray the top of another guitar. A '58 would probably be before they figured that out & hence the red there.
Those early 58 3-Tones Sunbursts are beautiful! Anymore pix Kim?

Here is a shot or two of my '58. Kim and I erecentlky met on another vintage deal and traded picts of our '58's. Funny how they could have been done the same afternoon! No nannie on mine, but the print is the same guy! Enjoy!! Here's to ya Kim!!!
Mark,
They sure do look like they were done by the same person.
They could be twins. that is a beautiful guitar
Here is the gallery of my 58.

Yeah, the tremolo adds some weight to a Strat. Beautiful guitars!

Here's some pictures of her under the hood:
Anyone have any new pictures?
I,m interested in info/pics of the different names pencilled on the necks, mine has XA. The only other i have seen is TG. Surely there were other "neck people"

All of these guitars are absolutely beautiful, though it is an act of utter cruelty to show such works of art to poor minions like me. Kim that '58 looks like new, wonderful. Keep the photos coming I just love to see all these incredible instuments.
Thought I might bump this thread. Here`s a shot of my ash bodied 3-56 strat. Sounds reeeally nice!
I like this shot.
The neck looks like it has a lot a character. Nice grain in the body too.
Both (Strat & Tremolux) are made in March 1956. I think the '56 Tremolux is one of the best, if not the best, tweed amp Fender produced. When Fender changed the amp in '57 it lost it's sweet tone. I owned many pre-CBS Strats but this '56 will always stay with me, it's still the best sounding Strat I've played so far.
