    Fuh!

I think the top slide player is Jeff Beck!

To establish my bona fides to make such a statement, here are some great slide players I've seen live and in person:

    Muddy Waters
    Lowell George
    Luther Allison
    Mick Taylor
    Bonnie Raitt
    Derek Trucks
    Brian Setzer
    Thurston Moore
    and
    Danny Gatton

But hey, Jeff Beck is alone at the top!

...a couple of Les Pauls that are set up automatically to change the tuning while you are playing, forgot the name of the set up? It is very expensive to have installed...
Hipshot Trilogy maybe? I was skeptical (and still am) with regard to that bridge but being someone whos seen it in action did you hear any noticible intonation issues?

It's not a hip shot. It completely changes the tuning of the guitar and keeps it there and stays in tune, can be done while you are playing. You can see the unit on the guitar from the front of it .Sonny has a couple of LP'S with that set up. I will have to ask my bro what it is called. I knew it but totally forgot what it is called.I think it is made by one particular person.Speaking of Sonny I hope he is OK and didn't suffer greatly from Katrina.

Your sure this isn't it? Either way this thing sure looks like it would make slide tuning changes a lot easier.

yep, the foaming beer trick was insane. what made it even more impressive is when he wiped off the fretboard with a rag and still didn't miss a single note!

There are too many quality players for a top 5 list. But, if Johnny Winter is not in your top 5, you just don't have a list. And you probably never gave Johnny a listen.

Did anyone mention Leo Kotke? He wouldn't be on my top 5 either.

Ry Cooder plays slide on Mick Jaggers Movie song Performance. It has to be some of the most wicked slide ever recorded.

And Rory Block is about the most badass delta blues slide player a la Robert Johnson. And she looks great ,too.

I like Sonny Landreth and George Harrison--scary good and original, not the typical southern Duane Thang.

OK boys and girls. After watching the Hellecasters, we need to put Will Ray in the top 5, because the steath slide deal he does is so wicked and original.

I've already ordered a stealth slide!

While playing muted notes THROUGH the rag! That was one of the most amazing stunts I've ever seen! DG RIP!
