It's an amp modeling software, like Amplitube.
I did try it and while it offers a lot more tweaking options and effects than Amplitube, it's way too much for me.
It's more like a rack full of different combinations of amp modeling, effects and whatever else you can find in an effect rack for guitar. You can tweak just about any parameters, amp type, cabinet type, mic placement, effects, loops on tape and more.

Amplitube is more straight forward, built like an amp, a few stomp boxes and effects. A lot less complicated to use and produced beautiful amp sounds.

    Re: Guitar Rig software

I've only tried the demo... and it's pretty amazing what it will do, and the sound quality too. In a lot of ways, it has a more 'analog' visual feel once you open it up than most of the other options. It's basically a VIRTUAL rack of really great stuff, and you can do odd morphing things not possible in reality, or even build a wall of AC30's.... But TC1 is right: it ain't cheap, and your tone is tied to your p.c.

If the price is right though.... jump on it! Sounded a lot better than my PODxt.

It's a software rig with an outboard set of footswitches... but you can't really "take it with you".
