    Split my signal...

I want to try to split my signal between two different amp modelers at the same time... so I was thinking I could do it with my mixer.

I was thinking I could put my guitar into a channel, then run the output of each channel into a different amp modeler in different amp models, then run the output of both of those into the left and right channels of my computer...

    What do you guys think?

    Sounds doable.

    Why?

Are you going for a two amp recording situation? That should do it. It would probably be an improvement over a `Y' cable, too, because the pickup won't be loaded down by two modeler input impedances. Nor would the modeler inputs have any way to interact with each other. Give it a shot and let's hear it in the Jam Zone. :yay

Yep.. It's a Jam Zone thing... just trying to find something different. Those guys can do those dueling guitars so easy; I'm hoping this is a shortcut... Or just a totally different sound altogether.

BTW: Anje gave me the idea with this phtot:

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to do it this way.

Depending on your setup and how you record, there are numerous way of doing that split.

My setup is very simple with just a Soundblaster sound card. But my "special weapon" is the KxProject ASIO drivers I got for it.
I can route my input signal to 2, or more, ASIO inputs and record all those at once using different amp modeling as I please.
I have yet to experiment with that though. But I know it works for trying it out by mistake on day.

Easiest method, use a stereo chorus pedal with two outputs.
Best method, have David Boggs build you a Loooper that allows you to split the signal and pan it. Probably cost about a hundred bucks.

Record it clean, dupe the channels, and run different effects in your recording software.

Well that was an interesting and totally worthless experiment... it worked, but just did nothing for the sound... used Marshall JCM900 and Tweed on the other side..

    Re: Split my signal...

Now, try it with real amps and a couple mics and a mixer.

    That should do the trick!

    Re: Split my signal...

It could work but you would have to play with EQ and other stuff to change the sound coloration between the two tracks to help differenciate the two.
And if you add a little delay between the two tracks it would help too.

The thing is, the two tracks you record at the same time from the same source have the exact same notes played at the exact same time with the exact same attack/ bend/vibrato/etc...

If you record one track with one sound and do another take with another sound, even though you're playing the exact same part, the timing and playing will be slightly off (unless you're a machine) between the two performances, hence the two guitars effect.

Adding a slight delay between two tracks (10-20ms) of the same take will acheive a similar result.
Think of two singers singing together. There will be some differences between the two because they don't pronounce the words exactly the same, with the same intonation or even at the the exact same pitch.

It's the same idea with two guitars.
Even if you have two different guitar sounds, because it's the exact same performance, both sounds will combine to create a third sound of just one performance.
There's someone in my head but it's not me.
