tascam us-122 questions

here is what i have, and i am new to recording:

Fender Twin Amp
Fender American Strat Deluxe
Gibson Les Paul
A PC with Windows XP
Cubase SX

I am planning on using the PreAmp Out on the Twin Amp and running that to the Tascam, and the Tascam to the PC...

My question is, will i be able to use the gain channel on the AMP and expect the recording to sound like my Amp with the gain channel being used..?

Am i better off using a mic plugged into the tascam and just putting the mic in front of the Amp..??

Any suggestions on what i should get in addition to what i have already??

Im getting headphones on my way home, im thinking I should be able to record with everything else i got,, i just want to make sure i get the true Twin Amp sound using the preamp out

You will want to mic it. The preamp out does not have hte spaker, or power amp color.

got a loaner mic today, gonna see how it works out

.... and it sounds better when mic'ing the amp, although i think the strat deluxe sounded good (clean channel) going preamp line out to the tascam, tomorrow i have to test my strat via the mic'd amp..
