    How many have recorded yourself?

I'm digging playing with my digital recorder. I'm not saying I'm any good but I have a good time. I haven't figured out how to "bounce" tracks to double track my vocals and that'll help a lot. I think I need to connect the output to a nice stereo amp/preamp too.
I've got a cheap condensor microphone. Can anyone recommend a good quality condensor mike for vocals- up to around $500.

I can recommend good ones for way less than that:

    MCA SP2 \ $59
    AT 2020 \ $99
    MXL 909 \ $99
    AKG Perception 200 \ $159
    AT 3035 \ $199

The best of this bunch is the AT 3035. Does your recorder have phantom power?

Chet, it sounds like you have a Boss recorder. I started recording on mine last weekend and it was a lot of fun.

Is that a typo Fezz? Did you mean the 990? The 990 is a sweet mic for the price - and then some. :yay

    I don't know about the 909 if it's not a typo. :sg

Thanks for the replies but I wish they wouldn't have put this in the sound check forum because I don't think many people read it. I was intrigued to see if Tele-Bob, Fenderboy and others had done this (recorded themselves.). I may have tp post another thread to find out.
I may try out the Marshall condensor mike that was recommened by Vintage Guitar magazine.

I have an inexpensive condenser mic (Nady scm 900). It works pretty good for acoustic guitar and I used it a couple times for vocals (my dws has phantom pwr, yours probably does, too)..just like everything else, it takes a lot of tweaking, moving stuff around, etc.

I'd recommend, though, investing in a Sure SM 57. That has been the workhorse. It's consistently great for recording everything.

I would guess that a lot of folks just hit the "new posts" button, so this will come up.
I bought the MXL 990/991 set around Christmastime last year. I'm digging how good they sound for how cheap they are.

What cooltone said. If you can only have one mic to record electric guitar, SM57 would be the one.
    Several guitars in different colors
    Things to make them fuzzy
    Things to make them louder
    orange picks

I use a Zoom that can do the bounce trick too, but I have found that recording seperate tracks and then transfering them onto a computer for mixing is more convenient. I only use the bounce method, if I want to use the "master" effects - you know that cool spatial thing and reverb all over the mix.

I read the instructions for "bouncing" tracks last night but I just have to try it out. It's a little more complicated than it sounds.
The Beatles said that it was harder to perform some of thier songs because the records used double-tracking etc. They said that when the knew they weren't sounding good they'd do something to intentionally make the girls scream and drown out the mistakes.

Re: How many have recorded yourself?

    Hi all,

My first post here at the Fender forum. I just came over from across the hall. I figured since I love my Strat as much as I do my LPs' I might as well hook up here as well. Anyway, I used a 57 for years but recently went to a Sennheiser e609 and like it much better. At about $100, its hard to beat in my book.

    Chet,
Bouncing is just a way to get more trax out of what you're working with.
    Let's say you're working with a 4 track.
Say you put the drums on Track 1, Bass on 2, rhythm on 3......

Then you mix, or bounce, those three trax onto track 4.

Now you've got channels 1-3 to add vocals, etc....

Let's say you put a lead vocal on 1, and a harmony vocal on 2.

Now you've got your original drums, bass, and guitar on 4.
You've got new material on 1 and 2....three is vacant.
You mix (bounce) tracks 4, 1 and 2 onto track 3......

    etc.....
If you leave the house, you're just asking for it.
