When prepping a bound guitar body / neck for staining how is the white plastic binding protected from the stain? Or will the stain not color the binding at all, it's just wiped off?

Binding is typically scraped after spraying to remove any unwanted finish. Since this is a dye job you may want to mask it off to prevent any discoloration of the binding.
OneL, thanks for the input. More questions...
So if I was applying an opaque or transparant finish I would simply scrape the applied finish coats off of the binding? What type of tool is used for this scraping process? How is removal of the finish over the wood directly adjacent to the binding avoided? How long after the finish is applied do you wait until you scrape?
When using a dye, how do you prevent the dye from bleeding under the masking material? I've had this happen with automotive paints so I'm leary of it happening with even thinner viscosity dyes. Will the dye "take" to the binding? What is commonly used for masking material?

Check out the following link;
Intro to Bindings
Scroll down to the very bottom of the page where it talks about finishing over bindings. :yay
Thanks, great link. Looks like the pinstriper's tape is the ticket. Already have some in the shop.
