    LSR ROLLER NUT.................

    Hi Everyone,

I was just curious if anyone here has ever tried the fender lsr roller nut.
Also, I was wondering if anyone knows if it is universal to all strats.
For example, I have a seventies strat with a 9.25 neck radius, and the shape of the neck is the "U" type(rosewood fretboard). the neck also has a curved radius; so does anyone know if the Lsr would fit my strat?
Of course, I can't ask this question without throwing in the 'ole " please explain if you notice a difference in your tone and dynamics with it" question as well.
I am tired of fileing down bone and tusq nuts, the Lsr does sound like a great application, I just don't know much about it.
Thank you for your responses and help,
    Mass

It requires a different neck. Not a drop-in for a conventional nut.

Exactly. There's a bit more space that needs to be stretched out right before the headstock to make room for it. Fender doesn't sell necks with those anymore, so your only bet is to buy a neck made by Warmoth or USA Custom Guitars. Reasonable prices for the very high quality product they deliver.

You'll have to mention to them the LSR nut you wish to install on the neck, as they'll have to build it for that purpose.

For the record, the nuts work very well and I never had a problem. Keeps the strings in tune.

Also a quality repair man can make the appropriate slot for an LSR, I had one fit to an Am STD back a few years ago that came stock with a bone nut. The luthier did a perfect job, and it looked factory. It was a great piece of gear. Till the guitar got stolen......

Ouch! Guess you were... JINXED! Sorry ; couldn't resist!

Well,... all jokes aside, it is a nice piece of gear. However, I'm surprised that there were no intonation problems or chord fingering problems after the modification was done. Glad to hear it!

Might be a cheaper and easier solution than the one I proposed originally! :)

There were no problems, he just recut the nut slot to the appropriate slot for the LSR.

I found this on an authorized fender repair site:

If you are interested in replacing your existing
bone nut with an LSR, you should have an Authorized Fender Service
Center install it. The installation of an LSR on an America
Standard, for example, involves removing between .094" to .095" of
fingerboard, towards the body for proper intonation. This
modification should only a be performed by a trained guitar
    technician.

If I remember right it cost me about $90 for the nut and labor.
