RESOLVED: "Building a Band is Like Trying to Find Four Perfect Wives"

"...and it's even harder through blind ads."

    Discuss.

Seems about that futile to me, but I could be missing something. I hope.

I've got the best band I've ever had together right now. It's me, mice elf, and eye.:hee

I've been in the market for a good 4 years now. Been playing my ass off everywhere I possibly can to build chops and get known in the area. It's starting to pay off and I'm getting some good gigs but the band is still an elusive dream.

I have that same band, but there're too many bitter, unresolved conflicts and not enough help with the heavy lifting. Never mind that I can't schedule them to be in the studio (or anywhere else) at the same time.

I had the great fortune to join the best group of people I have ever played with 3 years ago, as a sub- which later turned into a full time gig when the bass player moved away. It took 2 years of attending weekly rehearsals and occasional subbing to get the bass chair. This is a huge church with published original music and a commercial cd, a second album being released mid-May. This ain't yer father's church - no hymns. It is an integrated pentacostal noisy place with a 2000 seat theatre for a sanctuary, a huge stage and sound system, and laser light. The band = bass, drums, 2 guitarists, B-3, Yamaha grand piano with midi, and 2 synths, and a horn section. That's right - 4 keyboard players. The material is contemporary, rock, and black gospel - if you've seen the tent meeting in the blues brothers 2, you have an idea what its like.

I've played everything from blues to metal, and been in a number of successful bands but it is just so hard to put together a group that works and stays together. I guess the longest running band I was in from the beginning was together almost 9 years, and I consider that unusual. Sometimes its just so much easier to join an existing outfit that is already successful............

And then there's Crossfyre. Sometimes it just clicks.
