    Thank you SPOSE!!!

    It WORKED!!

The super glue and baking power thing to fix a nut.

I was working on this guy’s cheap Strat clone and I bought a couple of nut blanks, but they were too narrow to fit in the slot where the old nut was.

So I mixed a baking soda and super glue concoction, fill the slots with it, and dropped an extra drop on the mixture to make sure was saturated all the way. Let it sit for about 1/2 hour and bingo!

Instant nut. Half the nut cracked off on the low E side and I was able to actually rebuild it.

That stuff is better than Bondo!!!

Oh, and I got the shirt. I have it in a place of honor... ON me! :hee

The baking soda/crazy glue remedy has been a favorite in my bag o' tricks for years! It's great stuff!

    Re: Thank you SPOSE!!!

I had a nut that was too low....cut perfectly on teh top, but too low on the fretboard. I sanded it flush and added a piece of crap bone perviously cut from a saddle (I use a scroll saw to rough cut) and superglued it to the bottom. I sanded it flush to the correct height........it only added 1-2 64ths or so...but made ALL the difference in the world.....

(Probably in Bob's double secret bag o' tricks a la Felix)

    Just another idea......

Well I used powder... and it seemed to work also. I hardened into a hard, plastic like substance.

I'll get soda for the next time, but it really did work with powder this time. I think the key was the super glue saturation.

Is there a chemical reaction with the soda?

Yes, there is a much more pronounced reaction with the soda. It also accelerates the curing time. Baking power is about the equivelant of sanding a little bone dust into a pile and then using the crazy glue to make into an epoxy-like substance.

ok, so it will work, what I did, but soda would work better because of the chemical reaction it gets harder, and faster.... Is that right?

    That is correct sir!

You need to be more careful with it too. It spreads a little more and it is MUCH harder!

I'm sure there was a G string involved somewhere too. Oh! The humanity!
