    $1495 for a Tele pickguard.

It's kind of used and by the way....

Don't forget to add $12 for shipping.

Short of carbon dating and DNA samples for Fender employees of the era, how the hell would you verify the age of a pickguard?

    Wait a minute.

    Such a deal.

But, hey, if you need one for your guitar, find another one!

I think it's funny that this hopefull seller is tacking $12 on to this price for shipping.

    Talk about balls.

My favorite so far was a "vintage dealer" who was trying to sell a putative "refinished L-Series Stratocaster body" for $3500 in an ad I saw.

There is no way of authenticating a refinished body, but there are many good reproductions sold as legitimate repros every day at a tiny fraction of this price. This was - or might as well have been - a legitimate reproduction offered as an illegitimate original...at a price constituting more than half of what the entire, authentic instrument would bring!

I used to be a full-time vintage dealer before the market went totally insane and became 98% infested with crooks and fools.

You know what? People want to be fooled, swindled and cheated. They want it desperately.

You may remember my profile on That Other Board in which I said I no longer did unpaid authentication or appraisal. The reason for this is that if I tell someone who is on the verge of getting swindled for thousands of dollars on an obvious fake that the instrument is not as represented, the mark gets angry...not at the swindler who is trying to do him out of thousands of bucks, but at me for destroying his "dream."

I have seen this happen dozens of times, including on this board. I don't think I have ever seen anyone thank an expert for preventing him from being swindled. What I have seen is morons storm off in a huff and buy the fraudulent pieces anyway even after having several knowledgeable experts clearly explain the inauthenticities.

The vintage thing has become so hopelessly corrupted by dishonesty, delusion and downright willful stupidity that it's just not for the reasonable person any more.

I saw some so-called "vintage screws" selling for a few hundred bucks. People have too much money and not enough brain cells.

    Ha!

Like a fool, I lost the screws out of the spring cover on my all-original pre-CBS Stratocaster and was trying to get Mark to find me some until I turn up the originals.

They're just plated screws, but I don't think I've seen plated screws in ages.

I really hate knowing there's an overspray ring on the underside of my Tele's pickguard. I can't concentrate on playing sometimes.
Just thinking that there ARE rare pickguards out there that are perfect on both side....

I saw some wood knobs for high-end stereo systems (15 grand and up) that cost $800/knob. The description went on to say that the sonic vibrations of the wood would be transmitted along throughout your entire stereo and therefore result in better sound.

Some people will buy a turd if you dress it up like a diamond.

    Huh?

    Somebody mention my name?

I remember now.. I thought I had some from that 76 Telecaster, but I remember I gave him all the "vintage (rusted)" screws back. I doubt he even cared. All I have now are new, nickel-plated screws...

For some reason, I thought the new ones were stainless.
