help needed with first strat mod

have a jv strat that i love, except for the 1 ply p.g. want to replace w/a 3ply. but curious as to what is involved as far as soldering, etc.

i know it's not rocket science, but i've never changed one out & don't know what i'm gettin into. also, anyone have a link or some info on shielding it while i'm in there?

hell, i can't even get the vol/tone knobs off. they must be put on with epoxy & a sledgehammer.

There will be no soldering involved in the pickguard change.

You will need to drill a few holes though as the typical laminated Strat pickguard has more screws (11?) than a single layer guard (8?). There are also laminated guards with 8 holes available.

You can remove the knobs by wrapping a rag around them and pulling up. I use 2 butter knives on opposite sides of the shaft to pry the knobs off. Keep in mind that this method will scratch the hell out of the guitar (and possibly you) if you slip.
