I don't get it either. I have specific likes and dislikes, but they don't usually include entire genres of music. Most artists I like play a variety of stuff. Maybe that's why they're not on major labels. They can't be niche' marketed.
Are you finding the musicians are only into one thing, or is it that they feel they can only play one thing to make it?

It ain't easy Annie. Everyone thinks they can do it too though.......
"I play Punk, Blues, Jazz, Country, Rock, and Funk"

i like to think that i can play rock, country, and fake the blues. but then again, i'm just another with a guitar.
feel your pain annie. it took me years to find a band that could play the songs i write. veryone else screwed them up by playing too much. but then i had to move so we went on hiatus. go figure.

I'm multi-dimensional.
I've got height. I've got a certain (relatively narrow) width.
And I'm shallow as piss on a rock!
Don't wish too hard, Annie.
I'm liking my new band situation very much...BUT...the keyboard player has a somewhat "Classical" (NOT Classic Rock) background, among other influences, and he keeps throwing in 11ths and augmented 6th chords that just make me crazy.....OK...crazier.
Can't be that hard. There's only 2 kinds of music; Good and Bad.

One of the hardest questions to answer is "What kind of music do you play?"
I start out by saying "Well, I mostly do originals", but when asked how to categorize it I get tongue-tied. A little country, a little country-rock, rock, blues, pop" It also depends on how I play it. Since I do solo acoustic the songs end up sounding a bit folk-rock, when my real idea for the song muight be quite different. A lot of this stuff is only in my head...

Welcome to my world. Too bad those "other" influences take up a majority of his time.
But hey, it will your keep mind young learning new things, ya geezer.
A friend's band has this problem too. The keyboard player hasn't realized that just because he can cover most of the voices, doesn't mean that he should. No concept of sonic space.Originally Posted by FenderBoy

When a musician annoys me, I always ask the question my folks asked me when I first got an electric geetar.
Can you play "Far Far Away?"
Not a request in the usual sense, I don't think.

it's just that "I" can't play for a while, and thought it'd be easy to find an accompanist. it's not. I have a tiny window in time opened right now so thought I'd seek...
