    International Blues Challenge - Memphis

Come one, come all. February 3 - 5 on Beale Street, Memphis, TN

    Uncle Pat played last year.

uncle louie played last year and rumor has it will again THIS year.

RC and Shoe will be judge's assts.(aka gophers) at the New Daisy on Thursday and Friday nights.

There may be more TFF'ers competing/lurking/jamming/having a good time so come on down to the Bluff City.

If you're coming, let us know and we'll try to get together for a jam or at least a beer!

I'm really going to miss not being back this time around, and hanging with you guys. God, that was fun.
Hope uncle looie's Charlotte Taylor Band can make some noise in the finals, though....what a great player he is.
It kinda' tickles me that my former band isn't going back, after the bullshit the frontman laid on me during the summer...but hopefully we can get our old unit back up and running and kick his ass in the regional next time around.

I'm trying to switch my vacation to that week, but my boss is being a prick. There is absolutely no reason not to switch one week this way or that.

Please support "Big Mo", when he plays. I luv that guy. Love his tunes. Love his delivery. He's got his homie Volker Strifler on board doing his amazing playing and singing, too. They rawked the house at Monterey...You'll love the show.

I need to hug and screech and giggle with shoe and kiss RC on his li'l headbone, too. Libations on me if I can make it.

Geeze, Unc. Sounds like my "Billy", to me. We were sounding fine and he just HAD to screw everything up. (great drummer, though)

Hey, Mods, I know this is short notice, but is there any way we can quick order a couple t-shirts and get em shipped here for next week so we can wear them for the Blues Challenge? I know, I know, but we just thought of it.

You guys be sure to drop by and say hello. Shoe and I (Candace and Robert) will be doing odd jobs at The New Daisy backing up the emcee Tom Claypool.

Drop us your band's name so we can sneak off and hear you. We should have on some kind of "official" badges and/or shirts if you stop by the Daisy on Thursday or Friday nights. If you can, try to catch The Charlotte Taylor Band feature the Les Paul work of our own Uncle Louie.

Oh, and eat at Blues City Cafe. It's the best food on Beale.

Email us if you want more info.

Re: International Blues Challenge - Memphis

A quick note for the locals... there's a benefit for a car accident victim going on at Neil's on Sunday, January 30, from 5 p.m. til ?, with a cover of $5.

Supposed to be at least 6 local groups playing and jamming, good music, and the money goes to the victim, a young lady that broke her back and needs the money to help cover medical expenses.

Guitar Center is raffling off an accoustic guitar, too, to help her. If you know Buddy Church, he's playing, along with several others.

    See ya there.

    See! We're famous!

Actually, it really is cool and the talent that shows up from across the nation is really awesome. Last year there was a blues act from Australia and I think from Russia, too.

Haven't a clue. I don't think we found out where we were playing last year until the band orientation on Thursday. I sure would dearly love to be in BB's again.

Holy crap Volker Strifler is playing the IBC? Man he totally smokes! You can also listen to him with the Ford Blues Band with Robben Ford on the Mike Bloomfield and Paul Butterfield tribute CDs and on the recently released Live at Center Stage CD. He's awesome.

And best of luck Uncle Looie!

Look at this way Looie, would you rather be beat by Uncle Pat?

Fortunately for this Voldemort fellow, my Harry Potter Blues Band is not competing this year.

Wait a minute.... if he's that famous and recorded how can he compete? Isn't there something in the rules? So it must be Volker's friend, Big Mo, right?

But look at it this way... I don't have a band or the talent to play for more than my 10 year old's band buddies....

Plus I live 3000 miles away.

Just for the opportunity to be there is fantastic, let alone even play.

Hey, they just started talking about it AGAIN on the radio!

It's being featured on the "House of Blues" syndicated radio show hosted by Elwood Blues (Aka: Dan Aykroyd).

That’s a lot of nationwide press! They have a huge market, check it out!

I suppose there's worse things that could happen to a guy. I could've accidentally nailed myself to the floor with a pneumatic nailgun... that would be worse. :rl

Ehhhh... all I can do is just go out there and play as hard as I can and let the chips fall where they may.

I don't know how good this Voldemort guy is, but if they judge on Les Paul tone and just plain sweetness, he's gotta a way to go catch our Uncle Looie. Don't knock yourself UL, and don't overplay it. When you lay it out there, it's got nothing to fear from anyone.

I'm probably coming in Weds night sometime. I know our sponsor has arranged rooms for us, but I'm not sure what the details are yet. I'd like to try to meet up if time permits. If I remember correctly, I don't think check in and orientation eats up much of the day on Thursday.
