    Question.

I've adapted "World Without Tears" as my theme song. If I do it on the local radio show, for free, do I have to pay Lucinda sumpin?

    Do they?

    Re: Question.

In my experience, which is meager BTW, The radio station will pay an applicable fees. In Japan, where I live and occasionally get on the radio I always have to turn in a set list to the program manager so they can pay JASRAC. I guess this is like BMI or ASCAP in the USA.

Thanks, bignote: that's what I was thinking. I'll just tell them and let them figure it out. (Or ad-lib an original on the spot, right? No pressure there.)

bignote is right. If there is any issue with you doing somebody else's song it's on them because they're broadcasting it. They should know what you're gonna do beforehand and take care of it. That's how it works on TV too as far as I recall.

Otherwise...sing a modified version of "Happy Birthday" or just send me $25.00.

I'm savin' it for you, baby! *SMOOCH*

Seeing myself in that custom, jillion-dollar shag, stricken with stage fright, every time I post isn't a joy, for me. (I actually puked that night. It was a big, big show. Yet once we finally hit the stage the fear evaporated. All that worry for nothing.)

Funny ain't it how the jitters can leave when you hit that first chord?

Sometimes they arrive. Like turning up and hitting a strong "E", only to realize you're tuned to open D.

The radio station should already have a performance license. A nickel will find it's way to Lucinda. Play away!

    Re: Question.

Annie, does your band have a website?
I play in a cover band and the venue pays the Ascap fees. A radio station would pay the fees too based on each song played. I would just let them know what songs you are planing on playing first.

Haven't been in a band since New Year's 2004. I've been hurt and am adverse to "just singing"...('cept with "The Bluz Boyz" for festivals and fundraisers, and few other things.) I should "get over" my hesitancy to be "a singer". (i do okay, at it, ain't no Eva Cassidy, Etta James, Bonnie Raitt/Bramlett, or Aretha though)

Pete's sending me some tunes to learn for the summer tour with his group. Goin' to Nashville soon to fiddle around in the studio. I goof, therefore I am. (Who wants to see an old woman make a fool of herself, anyhow?)

"I got grasshoppers in my pillow..."

I do a few public radio things where I jabber 'bout music and give them examples. Try to share what little I know.
